Anything you wish to study or teach in your home school can probably be found on the World Wide Web. Search engines abound, are easy to use, and reference libraries are everywhere. With a little effort you can find information about almost any subject you can imagine.

This little box may be the greatest thing you can give your child (after love, that is) to ensure his/her opportunity to learn about the world. The knowledge of the universe is at your fingertips here on the internet ... from children's book authors to science experiments, & from learning how to spell to talking with an astronaut. You can even find or make your own unit study to suit your child's interests, or practice taking standardized tests.

So, HAVE FUN! (but be sure to let the kids get on too!)

Oh, by the way...if you feel a little weight on your shoulder while you are here, it is just "Dolly the Micro-cat" treating you like one of the family. (let me know if you're allergic).

Homeschooling is an act of love and a gift to your family, yourself, your child and, arguably, the world. If you find that it fits your life, you will have some incredible opportunities to teach, watch and learn with your child.

The reasons and styles for learning at home vary as broadly as kids and families themselves. The results, of course, do too, but it is becoming impossible to deny that homeschoolers excel. Not the least of recent examples are the 2000 Scripps Howard National Spelling Bee, the 2000 National Geography Bee and the 2000 Botball National Robotics Tournament. Add to that list, the homeschooled teens who won the 2001 Toshiba ExploraVision contest with their idea for Aquagill.

All kids will shine if they get the chance, and for some, homeschooling is a better chance. Given the ability to pursue their interests at their own speed, many are leaving a cloud of dust for the rest to follow.

Although home schooling is admittedly not for everyone, we must face the fact that neither is the environment of public or even private school. After the dust settles and the catch-words fall by the wayside, the obvious advantages of the flexibility and focus of homeschooling will continue to gather new converts. It is not so much a condemnation of the school system, as a fine example of a different, and often better way.

Some will argue that only trained teachers are fit to school a child, others know that attentive parenting will help you see how your child learns best. How she or he takes on the world and what will work in their best interests becomes more evident through the one-on-one observation that parents are able to deliver.

When you choose to home school, your family can experience a closeness that has long been lacking in our 'me first, I want it all and I want it now' culture.
