REVIEWS, COMMENTS, 'Boy Howdy!'s and 'Atta Girl!'s

WooHoo!!
And I swear, I didn't bribe any of these folks!

--------------

"...I have found ... a new favorite thing! A magical index card-sized chord book!

IMHO, The two biggest jam-busters are:
1. The inability to call out a tune to play next (no-one can ever think of any songs under pressure!)
2. Not being able to back-up an unfamiliar tune.
These things are not problems if you have this book in hand ... it’s pretty easy to find a tune that the jam/circle will be familiar with."

- Andy Sicard, of the Goodtime Stringband, and the Goodtime Charlies Bluegrass Jam

From the August/September 2008 issue of Dirty Linen Magazine (#137 due on newsstands July 22) for their review (excerpted here with permission):

"... It's well designed, both attractive and practical, and because it uses letters for chords, it can apply to many instruments. McUmber-House includes bits of useful information, such as transposition charts and ideas on how to tell a reel from a jig from a strathspey, as well as suggestions for favorite medleys and some blank pages for you to make your own tune charts. She adds this essential bit of advice, too: "This book is designed to be a useful tool, but it shouldn't be a crutch. Learn to listen to the changes." Indeed. This book will help you figure out what you are hearing..."
- Kerry Dexter - for Dirty Linen Magazine of Folk and World Music (c) 2008 Visionation, Ltd. Excerpted with permission.

"...I found it a wealth of information on many traditional tunes, and to say the least I'm IMPRESSED!
I'am glad I got a copy now.

- Mark T Egan

--------------

"This book is a must-have for all traditional music accompanists.
If you are an accompanist, get this book. You won't regret it
.
The problem with most traditional music texts is that all the attention is given to melody instruments. Chords are indicated by tiny letters above the musical staff, when they are indicated at all, and when they are, there are usually way too many.

This book fills a much-needed niche in traditional accompaniment. At the top of each page is the name of the tune, the key of the tune, and the rhythm. On the page, the measures are shown with the chords to be played in large letters. In fact, the letters are large enough so that several accompanists can gather around one copy of the book, and be "on the same page", both figuratively and literally."

"... the format is completely new and wonderful. I think it is a winner!
They are an easy sale to anybody that does any kind of jamming similar to ours, not just to our folks that come [to Monday Night Sessions]. I've sold them to bluegrassers and folks from out of town because they see a bunch of the tunes they know in there, and understand the need for something like your book... I don't know of any product quite like it."

- Chris Foss, of Songbird Dulcimers

--------------

"... The little book is going to be very useful ... Many Many thanks!!"!
- Mitch, of Oz Whistles

--------------

"... "The format is way cool.

There are a lot of songs that I never heard, but a lot I have heard. I'm mostly into old-time Appalachian style. Real cool little book ... Thanks!"
- Jonathan L.

--------------

"... "I got the book right away, and thank you for being so prompt.

I really like the book. Good job. Thanks." - Jane

--------------

"... thanks Annie, and they are EXCELLENT!

Visiting pickers are very impressed, and it is so useful to know in advance that a tune has an odd chord in it... We play Bluegrass or old time bluegrassed-up. ... We play for my wife's Appalachian Cloggers which is great fun."
- Andrew Fairgrieve

--------------

"... This is a delightful little chord book. Extremely compact but with big type so old blind guys like me can read it while it sits on the floor.
I like the layout and it has a gazillion tunes you're actually likely to come across. What could be bad?
Plus, if you buy one, you'll get to exchange an email or two with Annie...well worth the 24 bucks just to visit with such a nice gal."

- Doc Jones, of the Irish Flute Store

--------------

"... All in all, if you are a chord player and need a quick and easy guide, this is the book for you.
I highly recommend it for anyone wanting to play Irish tunes, and I can't wait Volume 2 to appear. What a great idea!"

- Marc Gunn, of The Brobdingnagian Bards, and Celtic MP3s Music Magazine
