Video Games

This is my section devoted to RPGs and video games. If you don't know what an RPG (Role-Playing Game) is, you've been locked in a closet for too many years and wouldn't understand. I will say this, though. Video game (and RPG's especially) are EXTREMELY addicting, but at the same time ever so enjoyable, and they can really make the creative juices flow!
This section is NOT for emulations, so if you were looking to download games, I'm sorry, but they aren't here. What is here is a list of various games that I've played, their rankings, and a little on the plot. I hope you enjoy, as I will be updating this every so often!

The Games in Review

Actraiser (SNES)~bd~Rpga/Gm:
Actraiser is a pretty interesting game. You are the creator of all life, and are in charge of various lands throughout the world. By battling the monsters that inhabit these lands, you can make the land settle-able for humans, who will begin to populate almost immedietely. Certain events occur in each area which require you to battle or use special offerings or make miracle happen. The final set of bosses are REALLY tough. The music's ok, the RPGA graphics great, but it lacks storyline and the Gm graphics (which is most of the time) are old SNES. Still a good game all in all.

Castlevania IV/Super Castlevania (SNES)~Av~Pl/Rpga:
The 4th game in the series was the first to reach Super Nintendo. Castlevania IV is extremely challenging with interesting bosses (Death makes his debute!), though it lacks storyline, as most platform games do. The grahpics are ok, but the gameplay is fun, and really challenging. The music, I must say, is one of the best of this series. It's a long game, so don't expect to be done in a night or two. The game is based on a hero (what is his name anyway) who enters Dracula's castle and fights his was to Dracula. What mroe can be said?

Chrono trigger (SNES/Playstation)~Pf~Trpg:
I must say that Chrono Trigger will be one of top top 10 all-time favorite games probably as long as I live. Chrono, a young teen meets a girl at the millenium fair, and things start to crazy right from the start. Marle, the girl, is actually the Princess of the Kingdom. During an big show of her genius, Chrono's friend, Luka, accidently makes Marle vanish to 400 years in the past! The plot gets deeper as Chrono jumps from age to age, all the way from the Dino Age (With humans), throught the Antlantean (They call it Zeal) age, the medieval era, our time, the future, and even the End of Time. The music is perhaps the most memorable, and the storyline is a little confusing, but oh so great! Graphics are really nice, and while it is a turn-based RPG, it's not your normal RPG. Characters can link powers and abilities together to do Double Combos and even a few Triple Combos! A great game for anybody who likes RPGs, though I warn it is one of the longest I know of.

Final Fantasy IV/II (SNES/Playstation)~Gd~Trpg:
Following the line of Final Fantasy games, this was the 1st to make it's debute on Super Nintendo. In America it's known as FF2, while in Japan it's actually FF4. Cecil, the Dark Knight of Baron, is trying to get the 4 crystals from around the world by order of his king. On questioning the king's motives, Cecil is banished from Baron until he has given a package to the village of Summoners to the north. All Hell breaks lose when the package burst open, burning most of the village to cinders! Hating baron for its hatred, Cecil begins a quest to save the remaining crystals before Baron can get them. With the help of many different friends, Cecil must protect the world at all costs, even if he must become a Paladin to do so. A great game for any who like good storylines. This one can be a good tear-jerker at parts, and the music is really beautiful. Graphics are early SNES, though, and it's your normal turn-based RPG in regards to game-play. Still a great game if ever you get the chance to play it. It was re-released along with Chrono Trigger in a new Final Fantasy set for the Playstation.

Final Fantasy V (SNES/Playstation)~Av/Gd~Trpg:
Sadly, FF5 never did well in Japan until it was released with FF6/3 in Final Fantasy Anthology. It is the last game in which you see the crystals until FF9. The crystals of the 4 elements have begun to shatter, and it up to 4 friends to save it from X-Death and the void. Long and very confusing, it has a rather energetic storyline. The graphics are the same as it's predecessor, FF4/2, thought the music doesn't seem as memorable. One plus is the return of the JOB CLASS system, where you chose what your characters will be, rather than having them predetermined (and they can switch classes if they chose to). This job system was oringinally in the Japanese Final Fantasy 2, and how been seen only in 2, 5, and 8.

Final Fantasy III/VI (SNES/Playstation)~Pf~Trpg:
If anybody will remember a Final Fantasy game, it'll be either this one, or FF9. In a world deprived of magic, there exist creatures with the ability to use and give the power to use magic. These creatures, which are part of a different world, are caleld Espers. 1,000 years ago, war errupted because of the Epsers, which is what caused the lack of magic in the 1st place. A young girl by the name of Terra enters into the game with a completely unknown origin. Gifted with a natural ability to use magic, she must decide whether to join the Returners, or the Empire. This is by far the best SNES game (on the same level of Chrono Trigger) with laughs and tears aplenty. Kefka, the bad guy, brings humor to it, while love stories and strange and unique characters flavor it (Lock and Celes, Strago, Realm, Shadow, Terra, Edger and Sabin, Gogo, Setzer, Mog and Umaro, and Cyan and Gau. Humor is applenty with great character interaction, and Kefka's strange, truly psychopathic side. Anybody can learn magic too! The graphics are definately a step up from he last two FF's, and the music is said to be the best ever produced for SNES. Gameplay is great, though unlike FF2/4, you can only have 4 characters at once.

Final Fantasy 7 (Playstation~Av~Trpg:
Based in a world of guns and magic, FF7 does away with the last remaining shard of old Final Fantasy-ism. Cloud, a member of a radical group called Avelanche are working to destroy the Mako reactors before they sap the powers of the Lifestream. The war goes beyond the city of Midgar, spreading over the world. Some characters are really great (Sephiroth, the bad guy, Cloud, Vincent, REd XIII, Aeris, and Tika... oh, and Yuffie) while others are just plain out bad (Cait Sith and Barret). It's a fun game, though the graphics are horribly polygonal (there's no hands!). Music and storyline are good, with great plot-twists. Like FF6, anybody can learn magic, which is always a good thing. This was the 1st 3D Final Fantasy.

Final Fantasy 9 (Playstation)~Pf~Trpg:
This is my all-time favorite game just because of the ending. ::hehe:: I'm not gonna spoil it. First of all, it returns to medieval fantasy. Zidane and his Tantalus "Brothers" plan to kidnap Princess Garnet of Alexandria. Ironically, the Princess wants to escape on the Tantalus ship. Queen Brahne, her mother, has started war on the Main Continent, and darkness is sweaping over the land. The powers of the Eidons (Called Espers and Summons before) is rediscovered as Zidane, Garnet (aka Dagger), Captain Steiner, Vivi, Freya, Quina, Amarant, and Eiko fight the army of mindless Black Mages. The true evil is soon discovered to be a man by the name of Kuja, and Zidane and his friends must do everything and go everywhere to stop Kuja's reign of terror. This is THE most rel-life game in that all the main characters must question themselves at one point or another about what they are doing, is it right, and why. A beautiful romance blooms between Zidane and Dagger, as well as Steiner and Beatrix, the general of Alexandria. The music sounds real (no more synth), and is unforgettable! The graphics are definately much better (still polygonal, but you can hardly tell), and the game play is amazing! Finally, the pointy-hat black mages are back! This game mixes a lot of the old elements from the original FF's, suck as summoners, black mages, the "Jump" ability, old-fashioned "airship", and a ton of other things. Everybody has their own unique spells and abilities, but they learn this through armor, weapons, and various equipment. All in all, it has to be the BEST playstation game EVER!!!

Legend of Zelda, A Link to the Past (SNES)~pf~Rpga:
Zelda isn't your normal RPG. Link, a young hero, must take up his father's sword to protect the princess of Hyrule from the evil sorcerer
