The Squad

ADEMOLA BANKOLE

Goalkeeper
Previous clubs: Crewe, Grimsby (loan)
International Caps: Nigeria

Signed for £50,000 in the close season in 1998, Bankole had caught the eye of Nigerian football officials with his displays in the closing weeks of the season with Crewe, but was axed from the World Cup squad after letting in four goals in a game. Went on loan from Loftus Road to Grimsby in February '99.

IAN BARACLOUGH

Left back.
Born: Leicester, 4/12/70.
Height: 6' 1".
Weight: 12' 2".
Previous clubs: Leicester City, Notts County, Wigan (loan), Grimsby (loan), Lincoln (loan), Mansfield (loan).
International Caps: England Youth.

Joined R's for just £50,000 in March 1998, the cut-price deal coming about as he would have been a free agent in the summer. Notts County had signed him for nothing anyway, but he had soon gained a reputation as a good crosser of the ball who is always looking to get into attacking positions.

PAUL BRUCE

Striker
Born: London, 28/2/78
Height: 5'11"
Weight: 12 st 11 lb
Signed from trainee, Cambridge United (loan)

A promising young striker who broke through into the Rangers first team at the start of 1998. He was used as a substitute against both Middlesbrough in the FA Cup replay and at home to Tranmere, and he did not look out of place in the more exalted company. Joined Cambridge United on loan on transfer deadline day, March '99.

LUKE CORNWALL

Striker
Born: n/a
Height: n/a
Weight: n/a
Previous clubs: Fulham

Signed on transfer deadline day, March '99, along with Ross Weir of East Ham United, for an undisclosed fee. Hailed by Fulham manager Kevin Keegan as an exciting prospect and made a promising start to his career at Craven Cottage but found his way into the first-team blocked by a number of big-name signings. Quick, lively and with an eye for goal, Cornwall is definitely one for the future.

IAIN DOWIE

Forward
Born: Hatfield, 9/1/65.
Height: 6'1".
Weight: 13.07.
Previous Clubs: Luton Town, Fulham(loan), West Ham United, Southampton, Crystal Palace, West Ham.
Full International Caps: 40 Northern Ireland.

A whole-hearted and totally committed striker, who makes up for a lack of finesse with his lion-hearted spirit.
Iain is often criticised for his technique, but the fact that he has played at the top level of the game for so long belies his critics.
His tireless work often goes unnoticed, but he has the knack of scoring vital goals. He joined Rangers in January 1998 as part of the deal whch took Trevor Sinclair to West Ham.

KEVIN GALLEN

Striker.
Born: Chiswick, 21/9/75
Height: 6'0".
Weight: 12'3".
Signed from trainee.
International Caps: 4 (England Under-21).

A really promising young striker, Kevin was desperately unfortunate to suffer a cruciate ligament injury at the start of the 96-97 campaign which effectively ended his season. He has a high level of natural ability and is a natural goalscorer, with a superb record in junior football. Kevin's positional sense is particularly impressive, and he's sure to comeback strongly from this terrible injury. Netting five times in three gmaes in pre-season, Kevin didn't score in a competitive game until the 2-2 FA Cup draw against Middlesbrough.

MARK GRAHAM

Midfielder
Born:Newry, 28/11/74
Height:5'7"
Weight:10.12
Signed from trainee.

Young midfielder who established himself in the boss' first team plans last year with 18 solid appearances, at 23 years of age Mark seems to have a good future in football.

LEE HARPER

Goalkeeper
Born:London, 30/10/71
Height:6'1"
Weight:13.11
Previous club:Arsenal.

Reserve goalkeeper signed from Arsenal where he made just one appearance in three seasons. Will be hoping to see more action at Rangers but that is likely to depend on injuries.

ANTTI HEINOLA

Defender
Born: Finland
Previous club: Heracles

Signed from Dutch side SC Heracles in January 1998 for £100,000, Heinola had done well on a short trial playing well in two reserve games. He joined on a three-and-a-half-year contract.

CHRIS KIWOMYA

Striker.
Born: Huddersfield 2/12/69
Height: 5'9"
Weight: 10.07
Previous clubs: Ipswich Town, Arsenal

Signed by George Graham at Arsenal in 1995, Kiwomya managed 14 appearances in his first season, but was restricted to reserve team appearances after that.
Earned his Highbury move after impressing with his skill and pace in the Ipswich Town attack. Played 9 seasons at Portman Road and was a firm favourite with the crowd.
Released by Arsenal at the end of the 1997-8 season, Kiwomya was snapped up on a free by Rangers after impressing on a week's trial.

GEORGE KULSCAR

Midfielder.
Born: Hungary
Previous clubs: Antwerp, Bradford City

Kulscar was introduced to English football by Bradford manager Chris Kamara who paid Antwerp £100,000 for his services in March 1997.
Although he is Australian, he has spent a long spell playing his football in Belgium and has featured in Europe for Antwerp.
Kulscar is a very competitive player, and is in the ideal position to impress Australian boss Terry Venables in the hope of a regular international place.
Ray Harford made George his first signing as QPR manager in December 1997 when he paid Bradford £250,000.

DANNY MADDIX

Central defender.
Born: Ashford, 11/10/67.
Height: 5'11".
Weight: 11'7".
Previous clubs: Spurs, Southend (loan).

A big favourite at Loftus Road for his uncompromising defensive style including an ability in the air which seldom sees him outjumped. A great marker who is cool under pressure, Danny was badly missed by Rangers in the final matches and is determined to help the club back into the Premiership this time. He formed an effective central defensive partnership with Alan McDonald in 1995-96. This term he scored the second in Rangers' 3-2 away win at Crewe in September.

MIKE MAHONEY-JOHNSON

Striker.
Born:Paddington, 6/11/76
Height:5'10'
Weight:12.00
Previous club: Brighton (loan), Aylesbury (loan).

Mike made his debut for Rangers last season, a season in which he was also loaned to Wycombe for whom he played 4 times and scored twice, gaining valuable first team experience. Is competing for a first team place at Rangers this season, but has a difficult task. Agreed to join Aylesbury on loan in February '99.

LUDEK MIKLOSKO

Goalkeeper.
Born: Czech Republic 9/12/61.
Height: 6'5".
Weight: 14 st
Previous clubs: Banik Ostrava, West Ham
Full International Caps: 42 (Czech Republic).

A virtual ever present in West Ham's goal since the 1990/91 season , his dominance as the club's number one was demonstrated when a one match ban plunged the Hammers into a keeper crisis in the 95/96 season which saw them play 17 year old Neil Finn in goal against Manchester City. "Ludo", as he's affectionately known, has represented the former Czechoslovakia 42 times.
The arrival of Shaka Hislop led to Miklosko losing his place and he was loaned out to QPR at the start of October 1998. Signed permanent forms over Christmas 1998.

STEVE MORROW

Utility player.
Born: Belfast, 2/7/70.
Height: 6'0".
Weight: 12'2".
Previous clubs: Reading(loan), Watford(loan), Barnet(loan), Arsenal.
Full international caps: 11 (Northern Ireland).

Morrow spent nearly a decade at Highbury after signing as a trainee in 1988, although he initially failed to establish himself and was loaned to several lower league clubs.
He often plays a holding midfield role, but Morrow can also deputise at left back or as a left-sided central defender. The former Northern Ireland skipper has filled gaps in the Gunners' line-up for many crucial games, none bigger than the victory over Parma in the 1994 Cup Winner's Cup final.
He also memorably scored the winning goal in the 1993 Coca-Cola Cup final, only to break his arm in the post-match celebrations with Tony Adams.
Morrow fell out of favour at Arsenal under Arsene Wenger's regime, but followed his previous management duo to QPR in March 1997 in a £500,000 deal. Got a late equaliser to earn a point at Sheffield United in October.

PAUL MURRAY

Defender/midfielder.
Born: Carlisle, 31/8/76.
Height: 5'8".
Weight: 10'5".
Previous club: Carlisle Utd.
International Caps: England Youth.

Signed for £300,000 a in March 96 by Ray Wilkins, Paul had arrived at Loftus Road on loan initially but did not make the Premiership side until after his permanent move. He started just one game, the final match away to Nottingham Forest after Rangers' relegation had been confirmed. He starred with Carlisle before his move to Rangers, showing versatility by performing well in defence and midfield. His highlight this time came in the Coca-Cola Cup where he scored the winner at Wolves.

RICHARD ORD

Central Defender.
Born: Bedlington (County Durham), 3/3/70.
Height: 6'2".
Weight: 13'5".
Previous clubs: York City (loan), Sunderland.
International Caps: 3 (England Under-21).

Richard Ord was one of the longest-serving players at boyhood heroes Sunderland before he moved to Loftus Road in July 1998. The fine form of Jody Craddock and Darren Williams kept Ord out of the Sunderland side and he did not take part whatsoever in the final three months of the 1997-98 season, prompting a move away from the Stadium of Light.
The England under-21 defender is excellent in the air and is a real threat from set pieces. At £750,000, he is viewed as a very good investment by Ray Harford.

GAVIN PEACOCK

Midfielder.
Born: Eltham, 18/11/67.
Height: 5'8".
Weight: 11'8".
Previous clubs: Queens Park Rangers, Gillingham, Bournemouth, Newcastle United, Queens Park Rangers (loan).
International caps: England Youth.

Peacock is predominantly an attacking midfielder and weighs in with his fair share of goals. The arrival of Ruud Gullit at Chelsea signalled the end to a regular first team spot, and after a successful loan spell at Loftus Road he follow his former colleague John Spencer and linked up with Rangers.
The 30-year-old is a quality player and his "pass and move" style is well suited to the modern game. He crowned his first match after his transfer with a wonderful goal in a 3-2 Boxing Day win over Norwich. This term has seen him net a last minute consolation at Trenmere and go on to score four times in five games from late November, including the only goal of the game against Bradford from the penalty spot.

MARK PERRY

Defender.
Born:Perisvale, 19/10/78
Height:5'10"
Weight:11.03
Signed from trainee.

Young defender who played twice in the early part of last season but didn't feature much after that. Mark is likely to feature in the first team squad this season but may spend a lot of time on the bench or in the reserves.

CHRIS PLUMMER

Central Defender.
Born: Isleworth, 12/11/76.
Height: 6'3".
Weight: 11'6".
Signed from trainee.
International Caps: 5 (England Under-21)

Chris is a towering defender who not surprisingly is a very good header of the ball. His strength lies in getting forward for set pieces, and not surprisingly defending at corners. The player does have other tools in his armoury though and is a neat footballer when he needs to be . The player has already represented his country at youth and under 21 level and much is expected of him in the long term.

KARL READY

Defender.
Born: Neath, 14/8/72.
Height: 6'1".
Weight: 12'2".
Signed from trainee
International caps: 1 (Wales)

Ready is a reliable centre-back who is a commanding presence in the air. Limited to less than 50 first-team league starts in the six years he'd spent at Loftus Road up to the end of the 1995-96 season. Ready has found himself behind Alan McDonald, Steve Yates and Danny Maddix in the pecking order for centre-back places. However, the Welshman's pace means he can provide adequate cover when injuries befall QPR's full-backs. Ready replaced the crocked David Bardsley at right-back during the 1995-96 season and scored a crucial goal in a Coca-Cola cup against Oxford. Karl scored the first in the 2-0 win against Manchester City this season and secured the home points against Crewe in February after the Cheshire side had come back from 2-0 down to level the game.

MATTHEW ROSE

Defender.
Born: Dartford, 24/9/75.
Height: 5'11".
Weight: 11'1".
Signed from trainee.
International Caps: England Youth

A young central defender who captained the Arsenal youth side to the 1994 F.A. Youth Cup.
He featured in the Gunners first team during the 1996/97 campaign, and also played for the England U-21 side. The glut of foreign signings at Highbury meant Rose's first team chances were clearly going to be limited, the 21 year old thus jumped at the chance to link up with his former bosses Stewart Houston and Bruce Rioch at Loftus Road.
The capture of Rose for £500,000 makes him Houston second signing from his former club following on from the arrival of Steve Morrow. Rose is a hard-tackling defender who will be a major asset in the years to come.

KEITH ROWLAND

Defender/Midfielder.
Born: Portadown, 1/9/71.
Height: 5'10".
Weight: 10.0.
Previous Clubs: Bournemouth, Coventry City (loan), West Ham.
Full International Caps: 9 (Northern Ireland).

A left sided defender cum midfielder Rowland spent much of his time at Upton Park playing understudy to Julian Dicks. A lack of first team oportunities at full back saw him operate occasionally as a left sided midfielder, but he remained a fringe player there, before joining Rangers in January 1998 as part of the deal which took Trevor Sinclair to Upton Park.

TONY SCULLY
Midfielder.
Born: Dublin, 12/6/76.
Height: 5' 7".
Weight: 11' 12".
Previous clubs: Crystal Palace, Bournemouth (loan), Cardiff City (loan), Manchester City, Stoke City (loan).
International Caps: 7 (Eire Under-21), Eire Youth,

The youngster made his league debut for Palace in 1995/96 season as a substitute on the left wing. Operating as a busy ball winner, he spent a couple of months at Cardiff with Phil Neal who was interested in making his move permanent, but a deal did not come about.
Scully's ability has been recognised by his country, having been called up for the Eire U-21 side and he arrived at Maine Road in the first week of the 1997/98 season.
Moved on to Loftus Road after a successful loan spell with Stoke City, who were desperate to sign him.
Signed for £150,000 in March 1998

STEVE SLADE

Striker.
Born:Hackney, 6/10/75
Height:6'0"
Weight:10.13
Previous clubs: Spurs, Brentford (loan)

Steve was a promising reserve striker for Spurs before joining Rangers in 1996-7. Strong in the air and good on and off the ball, Steve is highly rated. Played 17 times for Rangers last term, netting four times, showing he was not intimidated by first team football. Also had a loan spell with Brentford last year.

STEVE YATES

Defender.
Born: Bristol, 29/1/70.
Height: 5'11".
Weight: 11'0".
Former clubs: Bristol Rovers.

Normally plays in the centre of the rearguard, although he has also played at full-back. An abrasive, no-nonsense stopper, he was rewarded with the Player of the Season award for 95/96 season. Bizarrely, he submitted a transfer request after his wife was subjected to 'Yokel' taunts at her place of work in the home counties. The problems now appear to have been ironed out.

TIM BREACKER

Full back
Born: Bicester, 2/7/65
Height: 6ft
Weight: 13st
Former clubs: Luton Town, West Ham, QPR (loan)

Having impressed during an earlier loan spell at Loftus Road, the former England U-21 international right back completed a free transfer from West Ham United in February 1999.
Breacker joined the ever growing contingent of former Hammers in the Rangers squad.

I was gonna put pics as you can see but the problem is it would take too long for you nice people to upload it, aren't I nice.
