The Moffatts
Name the group of teenage brothers whose sunny brand of
guitar-driven pop has emerged for the middle of nowhere.
(Hint: They're not from Tulsa.) If you guessed the
family foursome The Moffatts, you're right. Like Hanson, this
quartet from Canada (16-year-old Scott and 15-year-old triplets
Clint, Bob and Dave Moffatt) started young - at ages nine and eight -
playing local festivals in 1992. But don't compare them to Backstreet
or 'N Sync. Says Scott, "Hanson and us, [we] aren't boy bands, because
we're guys that play instruments." (Clint plays bass; Bob, drums;
Dave, keyboards; and Scott, lead guitar.) Still, everywhere they go
acquire a boy-band-like following. "[In our hotel room in Spain, a fan]
walked in. We had no shirts on - just our boxers," recalls Scott.
"She started crying," adds Clint. "If we wa;led omtp a room with
Pamela Anderson [Lee] in the same clothing," says Scott, "we would not
be crying!"
