Isaac quickly turned the
lock on the door handle, Avery, who stood on the doorstep pounding on the
door, then running to the window, then back to the door again was making
him mad. "Oh. So now Ike is going to take matters into his own hands.
That is SO like you Isaac." The bare truth was, Zac was shaking. He and
his brothers had play fought their entire lives practically, and he knew that
when Ike wanted to he could lay one on that would leave you cringing for a
month. He also knew that when Ike wanted to, he could get steamed, and
when Isaac got steamed you usually wanted to stay out of his way. "You
want me to take care of it Zac? Cause I will. I'm about to." Zac took a deep
breath and discontinued his gaze. "You won't." "Won't what." Zac
watched as Isaac calmly pulled his light jacket off, and layed it on the back of
the chair. "You wouldn't hit me." "You think not." Zac felt his knees
go numb and he had to suck in another breath of air. "You won't." Isaac
rolled up his sleeves, just like in a movie, and with every move he never took
his eyes off Zac. "Keep telling yourself that." In Zac's deepest of heart
he knew he was going to get hit. And he knew that he deserved it, and he
knew it was going to hurt. But he was making himself think he wouldn't, and
that none of it was happening. The way Isaac prepared himself was all too
unsettling and Zac could feel his heart in his throat. "I don't give a damn
who you are. I don't care if you’re my brother, my best friend, my worst
enemy, or a complete stranger. I deserve your respect." Isaac stepped
closer to Zac, and Zac, only doing the natural thing stepped back
too. "You think that everything you do doesn't matter, well hate to break it
to you asshole, it does. You seem to believe you are invinsible, well hate to
say it kid, but I'm about to prove you wrong." "Fuck that Isaac! God damnit
leave me alone! It's not your life anymore!" Isaac continued foreward, and
was tightening his fists. "It is my life! EVERYTHING about you is my life!
Not only are you my brother, but your supposed to be my friend! We have a
career together! What the hell is this!? YOU DON'T GIVE A DAMN!" Zac
was as far as he could go. The sofa against the wall behind him would permit
him to retreat any further, and Isaac knew it. His face was so close to Zac's,
Zac could feel his breath when he spoke. Swallowing hard Zac shook his
head. "It's over Isaac. There's no more between us just drop it. You left
because you couldn't deal, we don't have it. Ask Taylor, we don't have
it." Without warning Isaac swung, catching his brother square in the
cheek, throwing him down on the sofa. Zac fell and Isaac was soon on top
of him, taking his dibs and putting use all the anger he had
stored. Mercy looked over at Taylor, who sat,
holding Tristan and looking out the window. "You going to take him real
quick, while I run these two over to the mall?" He nodded as they pulled
on to their street. Zac tickled Arianna and smiled. Gently rubbing her soft
head. "Mey!" She rolled her eyes. "I'm going." They pulled up in
front of the house. "What the hell." Taylor frowned as his little sister
ran frantically up to the car door. Mercy screeched to a halt and waited while
Taylor rolled down the window. "TAY GET YOUR ASS IN THE
HOUSE!!!" She jumped up and down and waved her hands
frantically. Pushing the door of the car open, Taylor stepped out, Tristan
still in his arms. "What's the matter Avery?" She grabbed his free hand
and pulled him hurridly to the door. "AV! What?!" She sighed deep and
waved toward the door. "Get your keys out you dumb ass!! Ike is in there
and he locked me out!!" Now she had tears streaming down her face and
she was having a hard time breathing. "He's in there with Zac and they've
been in there for like 5!! Tay hurry!!" He handed Tristan down to Avery
and rooted through his pockets in a panicked way. "Do you know what's
up?" "NOOOO!" Taylor raced to the front door as Mercy pulled into the
drive. Jamming his key in the lock he fiddled with it. "Damn lock!
FUCKIN' PIECE OF SHIT!" He pounded on the door once and then went
back to turning the key. It popped open and he shoved the door in. The
sight of Isaac, wailing on Zac, and the known fact that they weren't just
playing hit Taylor like a brick. Racing to where the two were at it, Taylor
grabbed Isaac and started pulling him up and off Zac. Continuing to
swing, Isaac wasn't the easiest sack of potatoes around. "Damnit Ike Stop
it!" Taylor continued to pull until Isaac was standing. "I swear to fuckin'
god I'm going to kill him." Sweat poured down Isaac's forehead, and he
heaved to catch his breath. Taylor jumped to Zac who lay still on the sofa,
simply covering his face with both hands and crying. "Zac." Taylor
shook him. "Zac!" His brother exploded into fresh tears as Taylor
pulled his stiff arm away from his face. "Christ." Zac's face definitely
took the brunt of Isaac. Bruises and tears were all over his face, blood
streaming from his nose and mouth, and hot salty tears running into each and
everyone of the cuts. Isaac stepped foreward to Taylor. "Get the fuck
away Isaac." Taylor pushed him back then stood up. Pulling Zac up,
Taylor half lead, half drug him to Mercy's car. "Please get him out of
here." Mercy frowned and gasped at the sight of Zac Hanson. "Please.
And where ever you take him leave him there, then come back." Taylor
slammed the door to the car shut as Mercy threw it in reverse. Pulling out
of the driveway Mercy looked over at her younger brother sitting foreward to
help his friend. Zac hanson sat huddled in the corner, leaning against the
door and sobbing. One eye had already
swollen shut and a big purple mark was beginning to form on it's outside.
He didn't respond, just looked foreward. "Zac you answer me you
hear." Another stream of tears ran down his cheek and he sobbed
quietly. "Mey leave him alone." "Shut up." The light was red, and
Mercy leaned over to the passengers seat. She pulled matted hair out of
his face and tucked it behind his ear. "Zac are you okay." He cried
more and turned to her. "It hurts I know. We'll get you there soon enough
alright." She looked up and stepped on the accelerator when the light
changed, and the four made their way to the hospital in silence. "How old are you Zac." "Fifteen." "Where's your
parents." "Not here." "Who did this to you?" "None of your
business." Zac had continued to not answer any questions since they had
been there. Mercy and Zac Dentra sat in the waiting room in silence. Both not
really knowing what to say, and both equally afraid of what was going to
happen when they got him home. "You look pretty bad here kid. Want to
tell me who did it." "No one." "Well obviously someone had to do this.
So who was it. I'll get this taken care of." Zac winced as the nurse pressed
on a cut below his eye. "No. You won't take care of it." The doctor
persisted to no avail, and when he was done making sure nothing was
broken, he left, leaving his interns and nurses to inquire. The doctor's
shoes made a clunking noise on the tile of the floor to the waiting
room. "Mercy Dentra?" He looked around the room until he found her
face. Standing up he led her into the hall. "Okay well, nothing is
broken. He looks alright," He handed her some pills. "These are for
pain, it's going to take a little while for that eye to heal." She
nodded. "You guys want to tell me what happened?" She shook her
head. "He won't tell you, and I'm not about to." The doctor shook his
head. "Alright. But if there are any more problems, please contact the
police or someone. Please." Mercy nodded and looked down the hall as
Zac walked toward her. "Want to go home?" He nodded slightly and
stood. The three of them made their way to the front of the hospital, none
of them speaking." She looked over at her brother and then back
at Zac and Arianna. "My house alright?" He nodded. Looking both
ways she entered the busy street. The day had been
somewhat chilly, clouds had covered the sky for the entire morning, and,
while inside the hospital, it had begun to rain. Mercy turned on her
windshield wippers and squinted through the rain. "Can you see okay
Mey? This is really bad." The sprinkling had turned into a downpour,
something Tulsa usually didn't see. Switching the wippers on to fast, she
turned on the heat. "This is really bad guys. I'm gonna take it
slow." She leaned foreward to see through the impending sheet of
water. A red light emerged through the waterfall and she stepped on her
break. "My god. I don't like this." She tapped her foot and
waited. Green. She stepped on the accelerator and pulled into the
intersection, but heard a car horn. Turning to her left she stared out her
window. A large truck hadn't obeyed the red light and had kept going,
much too fast, and when he realized he was going to get introuble, he had
slammed on his break. The truck was much too large to stop so close at
such a speed. Mercy screamed as the truck spun and slammed into the
side of the car.
"Mey! Hurry already! At the rate your going we are going to
have like, two minutes at the mall."
"Zac are you okay."
He
had stopped crying long enough to allow the Doctor to start stiching up his
face, but had began again when someone had decided to check out his
arm.
Mercy pulled out of her parking space and drove
to the exit of the parking lot.
The ride home was fairly silent,
Zac mumbling things to his friend and back and forth they went. Arianna
cooed in the back seat and Mercy watched the road.
