South Park Secrets Page

Opening Credits: There is a piece of crap that bounces across the screen in the beginning. Some people have mistaken it for a dildo, but it's actually Mr. Hankey. The song is sung by Les Claypool of Primus. At the beginning, Les Claypool has a bunnyfish sticking out of his hat.One of the billboards on the "road" scene shows the bit from SOXMAS with Santa doing the "airplane spin" on Jesus. There's a family of happy Aliens in one scene in the upper left. There's an angry snowman - This is the snowman from the cartoon called Frosty which was made before The Spirit of Christmas. The Black Bear from "Volcano" climbs out of the school window. Jesus and a buzzard from "Weight Gain 4000" are flying around. Brian Boitano is seen skating around. The pig from "An Elephant..." runs across the foreground. Aliens appear in almost every scene. Mice climb out the window and Ike falls. Kyle kicks him and in the next part he hits the South Park sign making a poop sound.
Episode 101: Cartman Gets An Anal Probe On the side of Office Barbrady's vehicle is the slogan "To Patronize and Annoy" "Make like David Caruso's career" - Caruso was the breakout star of NYPD Blue during its first season. He left the show after that first season to make films. 2 bad films later, and Caruso is returning to TV with a new series. And NYPD Blue has thrived without him. The Alphabet doesn't have it's lowercase letters backwards in this episode. Cows on a People Train - ? The song "I Love to Sing-a" is from an old cartoon by the same name. From Scottie Prince: I saw a Tex Avery cartoon on Cartoon Network. The story was about a family of owls. The mom and dad have four hatchlings, and they all sing. One of them, whose taste in song the parents don't like, comes out of the egg singing, "I love to sing-a, About the moon-a and the June-a and the spring-a, I love to sing-a". Of course, this is the tune that Cartman and Barbrady sing when controlled by the aliens in the first episode. It sounds like they lifted the music directly from this original cartoon. The owl does the same fingers-pointing dance as well. His name is Owl Jolson, so it may very well be a Jolson tune. The blackboard at one point contains "Kathy Lee Gifford - noun". At one point, the blackboard reads: Johnny threw the red ball. I ate to much cous-cous. Don't make fun of my grandpa. I'm not positive, but I think Kathy Lee Gifford is much older then she claims to be. Stan's huge ass smile is very reminiscent of Charlie Brown's. It appears that Chef's apron says "CHEF" one second and "chef" the next. It switches back and forth several times as he's talking to the kids in the cafeteria.
Episode 102: Weight Gain 4000 Cartman and the Rainbows - The Rainbow sequence with Cartman does not refer to anything. Believe it or not the rainbow thing is a totally obscure reference to nothing at all. One day Matt and Trey were eating in a restaurant and they heard some girl say that she hated rainbows and that is where they got the idea. Mr. Hat's spinning head was from the movie Exorcist. Kathie Lee's song is the one she sang on the Carnival Cruise lines. Kathie Lee & the sweat shop joke - Kathie Lee Gifford had her own line of clothing for Wal-Mart. The same woman who apparently can't complete a sentence without mentioning her children and also the same woman who claims to love all children, didn't realize her clothes were being made by child laborers in some third world country in a child labor sweat shop. "It is... too late for me, young Wendy" was paraphased from Darth Vader in Star Wars, Rerturn of the Jedi. Mr. Garrison's "Are you looking at me" line is from a movie, staring Robert DeNiro, called "Taxi Driver." It has Harvey Keitel and Jodie Foster. This is also the same movie that the man who attempted to assasanate President Reagan, John Hinckley (we think), watched over and over and found himself obsessed with the, then, teenaged Jodie Foster. John thought he'd kill the president to get Jodie's attention. More info on Hinckley: He began stalking Jodie when she was a student at Yale. Hinckly's classified as an erotomaniac, which is a stalker. You wanna know the weird part? Hinckley grew up in Colorado, Denver to be exact!! Get it? South Park CO, Denver, CO. The Book Depository is the location (according to popular theory) from which Lee Harvey Oswald assasinated John F. Kennedy. Spanish profanity on the blackboard behind Mr. Garrison (sometimes it's upside down) CHUPE MIS CHI CHIS. Suck my tits. NO ME TOQUEN LOS HUEVOS. Don't touch my eggs (balls). MI VERGA ES FEA Y MURENA. My dick is ugly and dark. The alphabet on the blackboard is sorted capital letters left to right, but lowercase letters are in order right to left. Kathie Lee travels in a vehicle much like the Pope-mobile. Mr. Garrison's "I would have gotten away with it if it hadn't been for those medling kids!" - Scooby Doo! The "Bunny-fish" are hanging on the wall in Jimbo's gun store. Also, Jimbo's store has a poster of a seal that says "Guns. Buy one." A guy who looks a lot like Kenny's dad yelled "He said 'To hell with Kathie Lee Gifford!'" When Mr. Garrison is carrying around his gun and everyone is saying, "Nice gun," it's not the gun he supposedly bought. It's the one with the gray handle, not the wood. Later, in the book depository, when talking to Wendy, the wood handle is there. When Cartman says " Beefcake- beefCAAKE!" it sounds like that Torrence kid from "The Shining" when he yells "Redrum-redRUUM!"
Episode 103: Volcano Patrick Duffy - Male lead of "Step By Step" named Frank(also appeared on "Dallas" for those who remember), oh, and the leg of Scuzzlebutt. Patrick Duffy also played "The Man from Atlantis" in the series of that name. "Lava and You" (black and white movie) - This is a parody of the 1950's movies about nuclear safety. The government convinced people that if they were nuked they could 'duck and cover' for safety. "What do you do when you see the flash?" "DUCK AND COVER!" "Nothing to see here" - could be from The Naked Gun (1 or 2.5?) The three clocks on the wall behind the Geologist read: NY time 8:00, LA time was 11:00, and South Park time was 10:30. At the end, ned can't shoot scuzzlebutt because he is out of ammo. but later, he drops his gun and shoots kenny! Also, the lava traveled through the ditch, and it wouldn't have even hit ned, jimbo, cartman, kenny, kyle, stan, or scuzzlebutt. After the boys are "saved," the mayor hops right across the ditch, as does stan, in order to kill scuzzlebutt . When Cartman told the story of Scuzzlebutt, the celery was supposed to be his left hand, but when he actually showed up, the celery was his right hand.
Episode 104: Big Gay Al's Big Gay Boat Ride The suitcase at the end - One explanation is it's like Mary Poppins... his work there was done, he had brought enlightenment and now he was going to move on.. A possible reference might also be to the (hotel chain) commercial with people popping into and out of a suitcase. Here's another explanation: The suitcase may also have been a reference to Felix the Cat's bag of tricks, but I'm not sure. The animation seemed the same. "I haven't seen an Englishman take a blow like that since Hugh Grant" Hugh Grant was arrested for soliciting a prostitute - this was both a major blow to his career and a major blow to (ahem). "I haven't seen a Jew run like that since Poland 1938" - Nazi Germany invaded the then-predominatly Jewish Poland in 1939, marking the official start of World War II. "I haven't seen a beating like that since Rodney King" - In March 3, 1991, by-standers watched as several Los Angeles police officers severely beat Rodney King. When the same officers were aquitted on April 29, 1992, Los Angeles erupted into riots. Brian Boitano (of SOXMAS fame) makes a guest appearance on Big Gay Al's Big Gay Boat Ride. The Boat Ride is a mixture of Disney's Jungle Cruise ride and Disney's It's A Small World ride. The Village People appear in the Big Gay Boat Ride. The chalkboard in this episode seems to have either really advanced geometry on it. It's kind of odd for 3rd graders to be getting that kind of education. pi * r * r = 2 * pi * r However, the above equation is not correct since you can't equate an area with a length. The units just don't work out. "Loving You" was first sung by Al Jarreau on the 1977 album "Look to the Rainbow". It was sung again (albeit poorly) by John Stamos's (John Stamos was the Uncle Jesse character on the television show 'Full House') older brother Richard. Kenny was wearing number 13 (the superstitious number of bad luck) but the ref called him by number 23 (the number of the Illuminati) Also, Stan had #4, Kyle is #12, and Cartman had #68.. 4-12-68 .. Someone's birthday (Parker or Stone)? Additionally, helmet-less Pip wears #00. At one point one of the other kids was standing there with #29.. That would make that person.. 29.. Kyle's football uniform number alternates between 12 and 14. Some Middle Park kids have negative numbers such as -1 and -3 The two mean-looking 4th graders who taunt Stan about his dog's lifestyle - ? Big Gay Al's right nipple is pierced. The conversation in "Big Gay Al's..." between Mr. Garrison and Chef, "I just act that way to get chicks, dumbass" is a blatant reference to the "Bloodhound Gang" song, "I wish I were gay so I could get chicks" Also, someone wrote me saying,"I think that the 'I just act that way to get chicks, dumbass' is a reference to this summer's blockbuster hit, "My Best Friend's Wedding." "George likes to... pretend that he's... uh, gay." "I see, and, uh, why would you do that?" "I... I find it attracts women."" The little conversation between Mr. Garrison and Chef in Big Gay Al's Big Gay Boat Ride cracked me up. When he denied being gay, it reminded some people of "Lyle: The Effeminate Heterosexual," that old Dana Carvey skit on Saturday Night Live. For those who haven't seen it, Dana Carvey played this guy who was gay as a French horn, but everytime someone asked him if he were gay, he'd deny it, do that hand thing that Mr. Garrison does, and say with a big fat lisp, "Why that's insssssssane!" The Sports bar looks small on the inside, but freekin' HUGE on the inside! The 'Sports Bar' was not a bar, it was a Sports Book. That's what legal sports betting houses in Vegas are called. Book comes from Bookie, which is the guy that takes your bets. Mr Garrison is in the crowd placing bets behind Jimbo. When Stan & Sparky are leaving Big Gay Al's, Al says "When you get back to town, tell them about us, will you? Tell them there are gay animals here who need homes, desperately.", and Stan says that he will. This is (I believe) a direct lift from the old Rankin-Bass 'Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer' stop-motion Xmas special when Rudolph and the Dentist Elf are leaving the Island of MisFit Toys, the Winged Lion says basically the same line to them regarding the MisFit Toys and Santa Claus.
Episode 105: An Elephant Makes Love to a Pig The last line of the show "That'll do, pig." is from the movie "Babe" after he wins the contest. Today in the cafeteria they are serving "cream-chip-beef on toast" (known in the military as "Shit On a Shingle") along with "Gumbo with Rice and Cornbread". One of the kids has an "Elway" lunch box (couldn't make out the Hasidic kids one, nor what he is saying), but over them is a poster with an alien that says "Have you seen me". One of the posters in the back of the classroom read "Our Pets" and one of the pictures was of an alien. Pig-Pen from "Peanuts" definitely appears in the front row of the classroom. The Special Ed. bus driver is wearing a surgical mask. The end of the Genetic Engineer's cane is, you guessed it, an ass. The genetic engineer is very much like the character that Marlon Brando played in the movie,"Island of Dr. Moreau" South Park Genetic Engineering ranch had those fish/bunnies on the sign. Rehashed plots - The "angry sister" plot and the "genetics gone bad" plot seem very familiar. They are pretty standard plot-lines, but we'd like some references to existing shows. That song that everyone seems to know - Someone's boyfriend said that he wasn't surprised that they picked Loverboy, as there songs are "obscure" in some way. "After all, if they said Led Zeppelin no one would buy it." I don't quite understand myself, but thought I would share. The geologist from Volcano sure looks a lot like Stan's father... Ms. Crabtree, the bus driver, has a bird in her hair. If it was always there, it's much more prominant this time. The first science project was "Casey and his Weed". That has GOT to be a pot joke, maybe Casey Jones by The Grateful Dead, but we're not sure. A small editing mistake, the first prize button is on Fluffy's cage, BEFORE she is awarded the prize, The idea for Pip's name is completely taken from "Great Expectations" by Charles Dickens. In "GE", the main character's name is Pip, because "his fathers family name was Pirrup and his Christian name was Phillip, and all he could make of both as a baby was Pip". Pip quotes this, but doesn't get to the last part before they tell him to go away. "French people piss me off!" The part where Terence(?) yells "Daddy, Nooooooooo!" when his dad shoots the genetic clone of Stan, comes from "The Omen". It's the next to last scene when Gregory Peck is in the church and is going to stab Damien. When Chef is singing his love song to get the pig and the elephant "in the mood", he quotes singer George Michael from his rendition of "Don't let the sun go down on me" when he comes in and says "Ladies and gentlemen, Mr. Elton John!"
Episode 106: Death The caffeteria is serving "Chinese Duck Salad w/Gravy" The song Grandpa plays on the tape deck for Stan is obviously a parody of Enya's "Orincoco Flow" The first person they fling into the side of Cartoon Central is Mr. McKormick. Who is the father of Kenny McKormick. Maybe that's why Kenny's death was not as cool this time, his father had the cooler death. Both Stan and Kyle's moms are named "Carol" In the beginning of the show Grandpa's cake is missing from the table in one shot and then back in the next. The South Park kids are standing outside a window watching Terrence and Phillip on TV. They are wearing space suits with American flags on them even though they are clearly Australian. The TV show Terrence and Philip is about fart jokes. If you take their initial you get TP which is the abbreviation for Toilet Paper popularized by Beavis's Cornholio alter-ego character from Beavis and Butthead. When the kids take temporary sanctuary in Stan's room, you can see a picture of Shelley, wearing her headgear.
Miscellaneous: "They always make it look like the characters are flicking off the camera when they have on finger up. Like in the Weight Gain 2000 the mayor does it and the policeman does it." Has anyone noticed the Charlie Brown humor displayed in the show? The kids are drawn kinda like the Peanuts gang. Stan is to Wendy as Charlie Brown is to the Little Red Haired Girl. Kenny cannot be understood by the audience (like the Peanuts adults). Pig Pen is alledged to be sitting in the front row of the South Park classroom. Anyone ever notice in SOXmas, during the beginning of the JC and Santa fight, Jesus executes a flawless Three Stooges eye gouge to Santa? Yet another classic TV reference by our beloved SP creators. Did you notice the two people taking Big Gay Al's Boat Ride with Stan? It's rumored that they were putting money down with Jimbo at the bookie's place. You'd think that the game would take precedence in this situation. Maybe the Gay Ride's tickets were non- refundable. Did you notice the every episode Chef always ask the kids how they're doing... "Bad" "Why Bad" On The Spirit Of Christmas cartoon, as Jesus and Santa Claus fight, they play a song taken from the Mortal Kombat 3 game. In The SOXMAS, Before Jesus and Santa begin fighting, Santa stands up and says, "There can be only one." This is a reference to the Highlander movies... Every time one of the immortals kills someone they say this to steal the other's powers. If you notice on the first episode of "Cartman has an Anal Probe," Mr. Hat Garrison's puppet had no eyes at all. But on the next episode "Volcano" Mr Hat now has eyes. Ms. Crabtree has a bird in her hair. In Cartman's house there's a crucifix on the wall. Barbrady's "Nothing to see here" line dates back much further than The Naked Gun. George Carlin uses it in a routine on a comedy album from the late 70's. I think it's just New York Irish street cop speech. It usually goes along with "Show's over" as in "Show's over. Move it along. Nothing to see here." The Brannif airlines commercial at the end is the name of Trey and Matt's production company.
