Solitary Leaf

Lone bare tree
Emerging from slanted ground
Stands tall aside
The lake.

Ripples march across
The gray waters
Reflecting the dormant
Winter’s sky.

One solitary leaf
Dangles on a branch
Extending out over
The oasis.

Breeze twirls the leaf
Around in circles
Loosing it’s connection to
The branch.

Once a slave of
The branch
Now a captive of
The wind.

Slowly descending
Rocking
It merges with
The lake.

Released
It is now a sail,
A captive of
The breeze.

Free to explore
It’s new domain,
Now part of
the lake.
