The origination for Cinco De Mayo, The Fifth Of May, commemorates the defeat of the French army by the Mexicans at The Battle Of Puebla in 1862. It is primarily a regional holiday celebrated in the state capital city of Puebla and throughout the state of Puebla, but is also celebrated in other parts of the country and in U.S.cities with a significant Mexican population.

The Hispanic-American Leadership Organization along with the help of Sigma Alpha Chi, Latina Sorority, and Grupo Latinoamericano, will be holding our annual Cinco de Mayo Celebration! The event will be held Sat. May 5, 2001 in the Plaster Student Union foodcourt, 8pm-midnight! Our fiesta is FREE and open to the public! We would love to see everyone there.

During the evening you can dance to the sounds of Latin Touch, a latin band from St. Louis, the newest latin tunes spun by DJ Innovations, and dance performances by Grupo Latinoamericano! Don't forget that it is
F-R-E-E!
