"RAW APPLE CAKE"
3 CUPS GRATED RAW APPLES
2 CUPS SUGAR
1 CUP SHORTENING
4 MEDIUM BEATEN EGGS
2 1/2 FLOUR
1 TSP CINNAMON
1 CUP CHOPPED BLACK WALNUTS
1/2 CUP WATER
1 TSP ALLSPICE
1 CUP RAISINS
IN A LARGE BOWL ADD SUGAR AND SHORTENING MIX WITH A ELECTRIC MIXER ON MEDIUM SPEED UNTIL CREAMY, THEN ADD EGGS MIX WELL THEN ADD FLOUR GRADULLY THEN BAKING SODA THEN ALL THE SPICES,SALT. ADD WATER, APPLES, WALNUTS, RAISINS. PUT IN A WELL GRREASED AND FLOURED TUBE PAN AND BAKE AT A 350* OVEN FOR 50 MINUTES OR UNTIL A TOOTH PICK IS INSERTED AND COMES OUT CLEAN. LET COOL AND TURN OUT ON A PLATE AND SPRINKLE WITHPOWDERED SUGAR.
IN THIS GARDEN I HAVE MANY HERBS. HERE ARE JUST A FEW THAT I GROW. "PINEAPPLE SAGE,VERIGATED SAGE,LIME THYME,LEMON THYME, THYME,OREGANO,CHIVES FRENCH TARRAGON, TARRAGON,RUSSIAN TARRAGON,ROSEMARY, FEVERFEW, CURRY,LEMON BALM, LEMON VERBENA, CARAWAY,DOUBLE LEAF PARSLEY,LEMON BASIL,SWEET MARJORUM".
Pineapple sage is good in fruit salads,so is lime thyme and lemon thyme. Lemon verbena is good to steep in water and make lemonade with fresh squeezed lemon juice and sugar. Feverfew is very good for migrane headaches, chives are good in salads and baked potatoes,rosemary is good in anything,oregano is good to put in Itialian dishes, sage is good to dry and to put in stuffings. Lemon balm is good to put in your ice tea and I also have peppermint, I have to keep it in a container cause it gets out of hand, we put it in our ice tea also.
