Third-rate Third Party

ARGH! *sob sob* Do you know what that is? That's the sound of another helpless gamer realizing that the saved states of 10 different games, one of which they spent 90 hours playing, have become one with the undying universal energy. Unfortunately, the energy didn't die, but the memory card did. Yes my friends, once again some hapless individual looking for a cheap alternative to a first-party memory card has lost it all. And look over there where some poor sap has gotten a third-party controller lodged in a controller port and is having a heck of a time pulling it out. But I can't judge. No. Once again this stupid Nyko Gamecube memory card that I bought on clearance has gone corrupt.

Everything was fine the first month or two. It lulled me into a sense of security. You'd have thought that the thing being in the clearance section might have tipped me off. Yeah you might have thought that, but I am a clearance queen and when I see those little red tags I lose my mind. You're talking to someone who actually bought Speed Racer for the Playstation because it was three dollars.

Well, like I said everything was just great. I had moved all my saves to the card because I needed the space for an Animal Crossing save. Then the unthinkable. I pop the card in and a over a year's worth of saves are gone. Vanished into the ether. I was devastated. But it was my own fault. I knew better and you should, too. That's why I'm asking all of you send in your most horrible experiences with third-party memory cards for a future article. Is there such a thing as a good third-party card? Or maybe you've lost it all with a first party accessory? Whatever it is, send it in and let the world know! Just email to those submissions to: cyndy01@swbell.net

In other news:

A new gamer TV show hits the airwaves and the internet. MyGameTV is a new website and television program based out of Florida. The show features some 80s, Bill and Ted-like characters reviewing current game titles. I don't understand it either, but check it out for yourself. It's got some funny portions and will take you back to a time when Super Mario Brothers was on the big screen and the world learned that video game franchises and motion pictures don't mix.
