BUBBLES, BUBBLES

WHAT ARE BUBBLES

Bubbles are balls of air or gas surrounded by a solid or liquid. Soap bubbles are a sort of sandwich of water and soap. A bubble needs air inside to keep it from collapsing right away. And it needs soap to make the water surface stretchy enough to create a bubble. So lets make some bubbles and preform some magic!

LET'S MAKE A BUBBLE BASE MIX

You can save money buy turning those soap leftovers into a real cool bubble base mix. You need a good jar with a lid. A wide mouth canning jar would be great. Just add soap leftovers and water whenever yo want. Leave the lid on, though, so the bubble base doesn't dry up. OK!

Here's What we need to do!

                                1. Rinse of the soap ends, and put
them in the jar with a little
                                    water.

                                2. From time to time, add more
                                    Soap and water.

                                    SOON YOU'LL HAVE A MESSY
                                    LIQUID MASS OF SOAP. THAT'S
                                    A PERFECT BUBBLE BASE.

Now we're going to mix up some BUBBLES!!

1/4 cup bubble base mix

3/4 cup water

1 tablespoon sugar or 1 package unflavored gelation or 1 tablespoon glycerin

A clean jar with a lid

NOTE: The sugar, gelation, or glycerin helps the bubbles last longer. These ingredients slow down the drying time. When bubbles dry, they break.

Mix the bubble base mix, water, and sugar, or gelatin, or glycerin.

Pour the solution into the jar.

Cover the jar with the lid.

EXPERIMENT TO FIND OUT HOW MUCH YOU NEED OF EACH INGREDIENT. Soon you will get just the mixture you like best.

BLOW BUBBLES WITH A STRAW

                           1. Dip the straw into the bubble solution.
Blow through the end of the straw to
create bubbles. (Listen, and you can
hear the air blowing into the bubbles.)

                           2. Blow quickly to form numbers of small
                              bubbles.

                           3. Pratice blowing slowly to create big
bubbles. As you practice with the
straw, will see the bubble move away
from the straw, so that you are
blowing through a little tunnel of
                              film.

BLOW BUBBLES WITH A FUNNEL

Dip the wide end of a funnel into the bubble solution. (The solution needs to be in a dish big enough to get the wide end of the funnel in.) Blow bubbles through the narrow end.

YOU'LL GET SOME INTERESTING RESULTS.

HOLD A BUBBLE PARTY

First, you'll need bubbly decorations. How about ballons with swirling, or pearlized bubblelike colors?

Hear's how to bake a bubble cake for the party!

                                 1. Bake the cake in a round mold
or in a metal mixing bowl.

                                 2. Frost it smoothly with white
frosting. But save 3 or 4
                                    Tablespoons of frosting to
                                    color with different food
                                    colorings. Then swirl the
                                    different colors of frosting
                                    through the white frosting on
the cake, the way colors swirl
                                    Through a bubble.

Serve other bubbly refreshments

                                 1. Bubbly punch, with colored round
                                    ice cubes floating in it.

                                 2. Gelatin made with ginger ale or
                                    Club soda instead of water.

                                 3. Sandwhiches of colored bread cut
                                    in circles.

For an activity you can give each person a bottle of bubbles and have contests for who can blow the biggest bubble. You can have teams to see who can create the highest pile of bubbles in 30 seconds. Who can make the prettiest bubble ect...

THE PRIZES CAN BE BUBBLE GUM, BUBBLY-LOOKING BALLONS, OR BOTTLES OF BUBBLE MIX.
