A VIETNAM VETERAN FOR PRESIDENT.

Back in 2002, I was hoping that we would see a Lieberman/McCain ticket in 2004.. Not because I have a problem with the current administration, but mainly because I would prefer to see someone not only challenge Bush, but challenge the two party system that compromises our interests as informed voters.. Lieberman got his ass kicked in the primaries because the Democrats forgot that they would have been for the Iraq War if Al Gore were president, but the good news is that John McCain has his eyes on the White House in 2008, and he doesn’t need a Democrat to help him get in.. There was no way that he would have accepted John Kerry’s offer to be his running mate, but McCain can speak for himself.. After being asked for the seven-billionth time if he would join the Vietnam Veteran’s ticket, McCain responded by saying: “I was a P.O.W. in Vietnam for five and a half years.. I lived in the dark and was fed scraps.. Why would I want to do it all over again..?” The media is obsessed with John McCain, but I think that it’s mostly because every time they mention his name, they have an excuse to remind everyone about the dishonest campaign that Bush ran against him during the 2000 Republican Primary.. What they don’t realize is that McCain doesn’t hold a grudge against the President, because that would hinder him from doing the job that his constituents elected him to do.. Ted Kennedy could learn a lesson or two from him.. If anything, John McCain should be thanking George W. Bush for stealing the Republican Nomination from him… because Bush went on to steal the Presidency from Al Gore, who probably would have beat John McCain, not because he was cooler, but because McCain was virtually unknown to most Americans back then.. Now McCain is a celebrity, thanks to the media’s infatuation with him… and he’s incredibly popular amongst the independent and swing voters which is all he needs after he gets the Republican Nomination.. So like I was saying, John McCain will most likely end up being the 44th President of the United States.. He might get into the White House sooner than that though.. There are a lot of Republicans who think Bush should ditch Cheney, not necessarily because he did anything wrong, but because Hilary Clinton is speculated to run in 2008, and so the Republicans want to put someone into position to defeat her.. George W. Bush is loyal, and he’s not going to ditch Cheney for McCain, but what most people may not be aware of is that Bush didn’t pick Cheney to be his Vice President, he asked Cheney to find someone to be his Vice President, and Cheney picked himself.. I like Cheney, and I don’t want him to see him step down, but if he does retreat from the Vice Presidency, I promise you that McCain is at the top of the list for his replacement.. As much as the media likes to believe John McCain is an independent and an adversary of Bush, I think McCain would happily accept the offer.. In the eternal words of my Ethiopian chum Semu, “I don’t know.. It’s going to be interesting..”
