WHAT IS JROTC?

J.R.O.T.C. stands for Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps. This a program set-up to help young citizens become better Americans.

WHAT DO YOU LEARN IN JROTC?

You learn many things will you are in the program. You are taught map reading, basic communications skills, leadership and discipline. Many people say that the program has helped them decide what they want to do later in life. While you are in the program, you have conferences with your instructor to see how you are doing in the program. They also try to help you decide what you need to work on.

ARE YOU FORCED TO JOIN THE MILITARY?

No, you are not forced to join the military. You are able to make decisions if you are looking at the military. About once a year, the instructors invite recruiters to come talk to the classes. The students that are interested in joining or getting more information on that military branch can get it then. You are under no obligation to join any branch. But in the past we have had students that get better rank because of their service in the program. We currently have a cadet in the United States Army (C/2LT. Justin Vaughan).

WHAT ALL IS THERE TO DO IN THE PROGRAM?

There is many things that people can do to get involved in the program. We have drill teams and special ceremonies that happen annually or every four years. Here are some of the drill teams that are available in the program:

EXIBITION DRILL TEAM WITH WEAPONS (HONOR GUARD W/W)

This drill team has a routine that is made up by the commander (C/MAJ. Michael Belding). They throw weapons while moving on the drill meet. They perform at drill meets and at the annual review.

EXIBITION DRILL TEAM WITHOUT WEAPONS (HONOR GUARD W/O)

This drill team also has a routine that the commander makes up (C/LTC. Cora Copeland). They do not throw weapons but they march on the drill floor. They perform at drill meets and at the annual review.

INFANTRY DRILL ROUTINE WITH WEAPONS (IDR W/W)

This team marches to a routine that is preset. They do manual marching and arms with weapons. They do not throw nor do they do fancy marching. Everything must be done according to the 22-5. The commander is C/2LT. Dennis Marshall.

INFANTRY DRILL ROUTINE WITHOUT WEAPONS (IDR W/O)

The commander (C/2LT. Korinda White) commands a set routine. They do not work with weapons but everything must be done by the 22-5.

DRILL SQUAD

The commander (C/SFC. Kristina Wooley) commands a set routine just like IDR W/W. She only works with LET 1's (first year cadets). In order to get this position you must have been on Drill Squad and be a LET 2 in the program.
