HUMAN GENOME PROJECT

Biology is entering a new world in which everything is changing. Studies are showing new development in our economy. One of the major successes in biology is the Human Genome Project which depends on the development of our systems electronic devices. The first really big science project in biology is the international Human Genome Project or HGP. The Genome Data Base (GDB) is located at the John Hopkins University. It is funded by the U.S. Department of Energy and by NIH's National Center for Human Genome Research. The things that GOB does, are they collect, manage, and disseminate the nonsequence data found by the HGP. The official goals of the project are:
Scientists have thought for a long time that diseases such as: diabetes, schizophrenia, and cancer have been passed down through generations of genes. But searching for a bad gene along the bodies 23 pairs of chromosomes, where at least 100,000 genes are packed, has been compared to looking for a burnt out lightbulb somewhere in the United States. In 1989, with a lot of support from the National Institutes of Health and the Department of Energy, the Human Genome Project who made to find the location of all the genes in the human body. Dr. Tom Caskey is in charge of one of the nine designated Genome Centers in Houston. His lab has been assigned to find disease causing genes on the x chromosomes and chromosomes six and seventeen. He and his team have found more than twenty such genes in the past eighteen months;they expect to find fifty more this year. By knowing where bad genes are, scientists can study how they wreek havoc and eventually stop it. However, prevention and cure is a long way off.
