ComancheBlue's Console

Welcome to my console!  I work as a 911 operator, and police dispatcher.  A fancier term would be "Communications Operator".  I  worked for a County Sheriff's Office for four years, and I've just recently made a move to a city department within the same county.  Time will tell, but I think I'm going to like it...  There are many different aspects to 911, and dispatching, so I'll attempt to tell you a little about how I do things.

"9-1-1, Where is your emergency?"

A  medic told me about a man who called 911 because he was having chest pain.  He neglected to mention that he trained fighting Pit-Bulls. (But, really, who would think of a thing like that while having chest pain?)  When life-flight arrived, to save precious time, they were forced to wait for armed officers to arrive to get them into the house of the man, who by this time, was in Cardiac Arrest.  A nasty, nasty, situation, that I'd like to avoid.

You know where you are and what you are doing, and God knows where you are  and what your are doing, but unless your Dispatcher knows where you are and what you are doing, then I hope you and God are on very good terms!

"911, Use it, don't abuse it!"
A pet peeve of mine.  If you do not have an emergency, do not call 911.  There are non-emergency lines and  administrative lines, please use those if you don't have an emergency.  If you have any doubt, by all means, use 911, better safe than sorry, but if you KNOW that it's not an emergency, please look up the non-emergency number. A 911 emergency is for danger to life, limb, or eyesight. It is not to call and tell me that your neighbors have just left, and forgotten to water their pet goat. (no, I didn't make this one up).

In God We Trust, all others checked through N.C.I.C.
