Since the dawn of man, there have been imitators. There's always the dream that one person would always be able to do everything that every other human could. But since we can't, we learn to imitate.
Without really noticing, people will run across the same idea over and over again. Take the car. It's just a wagon with a different form of propulsion. It's still got all of the advantages and disadvantages of a wagon, it just looks better and moves faster. But both haul items, both have 'horse' power, both break down and both shatter when they slam into something at a fast enough speed.
Imitation is the art of taking something, tweaking it by one's own personal tastes and/or skill and saying "Hey, I made something original."
This lead to the invention of the lawsuit, but enough about that.
There are similarities between styles of art, idealistic visions and numerous other things This page is dedicated to finding some of the more blatant and/or suspicious ripoffs.
Take for example:
The figure on the left is Final Fantasy 4's Golbez while the figure on the right is Emperor Zog of Breath of Fire. Notice the similar styles of armor? That's sort of what we're looking for.
The figure on the left is Ranma 1/2's Akane while the figure on the right is Goddess Tyr/Myria of Breath of Fire. See the resembalance? Huh? You don't? Here, let me see if the full pic of Tyr/Myria works:
