Madagascar Outreach

I met Bob in town, who shared with me about his growing-up to missionary parents in Toalgonaro (Fort Dauphin) Madagascar. During this personal live interview (Morris Public Library-10/11/03), he was wearing a special hat-top from India that made it very cultural. He lived there for 8 years as a kid. Then in 1984, he moved to his parent's homeland-St. Paul, Minnesota-U.S.A. Later, he moved up to Ashby, MN and finally now settles in Morris, MN now for the last 5 years.

Bob has been to the capitol city city, where he visited with his family. While his parents were missionaries there, he was homeschooled by his parents. However, his older sister attended an American school in Madagascar.

His parents taught about the "Gospel", whom his dad was a pastor. Now his parents are retired. However, he had a chance to revisit with his parents back to Madagascar in 2000. Bob told me he flew on Madagascar Airline.

It was a short 5-10 minute interview since it was unexpected when Bob saw me doing what I usually do-working on websites at the Morris Public Library. Bob appreared enthusiastic being interviewed about his birth place growing-up. Unfortunately, it's been a long time, which he wasn't able to remember much detail information to share with me on this unique unpopular (media) nation. He gave me his phone number as he was interested in doing this again. Till then, this is some information that I've collected so far on people I've met from Madagascar.

As I'm writing this, I do remember meeting at least one person in my life-time from this nation. I went with a former UMM Int'l student to visit his friends in Concordia University-Moorhead, North Dakotah several years ago. I met one of the int'l students there and he was from Madagascar. I told him that he didn't look like a resident of an African nation-Asian Indian. He told me that many Asian Indians (eg. Mahatma Gandhi lived in South Africa as a lawyer with many Asian Indians during British colonization) reside here and many other southeastern nations of this growing culturally-diverse continent. Cool-huh?
