Pokegirls: Tenchi Muyou! / Pretty Sammy / Magical Project S

Below are the characters. Each character is broken down to their primary selves (i.e. who they were before I stole them and made them more pokegirls-oriented) and then who they are in my story. For those who like to know how to pronounce things, I've added a brackets to help you with the harder to pronouce names. Warning: Some series spoilers.

Tenchi Muyou! and Magical Project S are both connected. Tenchi Muyou! was the prime series. Magical Project S was slowly spawned from the Tenchi Muyou! Mihoshi Special, where Sasami changes into Pretty Sammy. The TV series gave another shot of Sammy, though changed her powers and goal again. Finally, AIC and Pioneer decided, based on fan reaction to the originals, to make a three tape Pretty Sammy OVA that did remarkably well. This lead to Pretty Sammy getting a TV series named Magical Project S, which is actually pretty damn hilarious if you like both Tenchi Muyou! and minor spoofs on Sailor Moon.

Quote: Why can't I have a normal life?

Kiyone. Of all the people in the normal Tenchi Muyou universe that I think got a bum rap, it's Kiyone. She is, as was stated in a Nodwick Comic (see Nodwick at http://www.gamespy.com/comics/nodwick/index.html), a Destiny Sponge. If she doesn't take it, the universe suffers as a consequence. However, I felt she deserved much better than that. She gets to be Reimi's second favorite hump toy. That's about ninety six steps up from where she was at Mihoshi's partner. Let's face facts. Kiyone and Mihoshi are as opposite as night and day and Kiyone's life was difficult enough without Mihoshi.

Don't touch that, Bubblehead!

I'm not down on Mihoshi.... for the most part. I know she's supposed to be the cheerful one, but they tend to make her a tad on the irritating side. I haven't decided a fate for Mihoshi. I've left her a Golden Elf, but as for anything else, all I can say is that Kiyone is safe from her. Sorry "Mihoshi+Kiyone=Best Friends 4Ever" fans, but I think Kiyone will live better seeing Mihoshi on occassion, rather than on a daily basis.

Quote: I will not tolerate this!

Yikes! Juraian Princess Aeka is quite the scary woman. I don't know if she's got terminal PMS, a Rage Disorder, she just needs her meds or if she's trying to deny her affections towards a certain space pirate, but she tends to overreact to everything that involves Ryoko. My Aeka has toned down her violent reactions. She is working to prove to Tenchi's Alpha, Ryoko, that she deserves to be part of Tenchi's harem.

Sexy, crazy, cool!

Ryoko the original was Space Pirate. As such, she did many illegal things, some the earliest involved Aeka. Ryoko and Aeka later compete for Tenchi's affections. My Ryoko is a Neo Iczel who is very determined, perhaps over-determined, to make sure Tenchi remains safe from harm. What secret might she be hiding?

Beware, universe, here comes an average Japanese teenager.

Tenchi Masaki the original is.... boring. I'm sorry, but Tenchi tends to panic and complain a lot. You'd think after going through half the crap he does, he'd snap and screw Ryoko and Aeka. Especially when he actually has both a spine and a set of working hormones. My Tenchi remains a bit of a wimp, but I think I've bolstered him a bit.

Quote: I've got magic fingers...

Washu is always a brilliant scientist. She loves researching and inventing as though they were second only to the universe's best orgy. My Washu remains brilliant, but she's a lot more serious about her work. She believes that her life mission to undo what Sukebe has wrought and while she may take a few 'breathers' and explore different sciences, she returns to her main goal quite often.

Quote: Mahou Shoujo Pretty Sammy desu!

Sasami Kawai is the daughter of Ginji and Honoka Kawai. The original Sasami is only about ten or so, but I've made her sixteen. After all, characters grow up eventually. My Sasami hadn't planned on being a tamer, but as she saved three pokegirls, it became evident it was part of her destiny. Sasami has since given the concept serious thought, though the final confirmation was when her friend Misao began Thresholding. Sasami is now a tamer seeking her best friend.

Quote: Ano....KAWAII!

Misao Amano is the daughter of Shigeki and Kotoe Amano. The original OVA Misao had a strange illness that kept her bedridden (goddamn Pioneer won't release the first OVA in my part of the country so I can find out what it might be) while the TV series Misao suffered from loneliness and depression (her mom seems to be an office lady and her father is a traveling pianist). I'm trying to give Misao a better life, so expect her to get better. She's currently a Loner and she'll probably become a Heroine before Chapter 30.

Sasami Clone?

Mizuki is not a clone of Sasami. In the Tenchi Muyou! RPG for the SNES/Super Famicom, she's a creation of one of Washu's arch-rivals. Mizuki was supposed to beat Ryoko, but was easily trounced by the Space Pirate. Later, when her creator abandons her, Mizuki joins Tenchi and gang to get back at her former master, who decides to upgrade Mizuki and make clones of her named Shitzuki (whether it was mistranslated and the clones were supposed to be Shizuki remains a mysterious). My Mizuki is a former seamstress/designer turned Succubus.

Quote: Are you sure you want to do that?

In Magical Project S, Hikari is an old school friend of Ryo-Ohki's. Her special talent was absorbing and reflecting magic. Unfortunately, this didn't stop her from being influenced by mind-control magic. My Hikari is a ShieldMaiden with the unique ability to absorb psi/magic attacks and recharge her own strength with that energy.

Quote: Let's play.

Mirei showed up in the Tenchi Muyou TV series. She was a fairly powerful ghost in a ship graveyard (I think they're called sargasso?). She and Sasami become good friends despite the fact they only have one episode together, but poor Mirei's been alone so long that all she has to go by is her photo from long ago. I've always felt people as unfortunate as her deserved a break, so I brought her to life and made her a Cheshire.

Quote: Haida, I don't know why, but that's against school rules!

Eimi Date the original is a stickler for rules. She's the class president and quite strict on some points, though she has a few delusions of grandeur. Eimi is quite tone deaf when it comes to singing. My Eimi is a kind girl who grew up living with her aunt. However, for a while, when her aunt Ramia underwent a late Threshold, they were in danger of losing their house. Thankfully, Sasami's father stepped in and managed to help Eimi and Ramia keep their house. Eimi grew up learning the wrongs that the Leagues have placed on pokegirls and despising them. She's definitely pro-pokegirl.

Quote: Beautiful...

Kenji Oyamada the original was a boy who grew up admiring girls early on. Almost any female could catch Kenji's eye. He didn't grope anyone as he was much more like a professional photographer. My Kenji prefers female beauty and admires the special glow of a smiling girl's face. As such, he's grown to dislike Konoha Haida, who brings frowns to Misao and Sasami's faces.

Quote: We'll show those jerks from Class 2!

Hiroto the original is a huge athlete. If it's physically active sport, he loves to play it. He prefers soccer. He saved Konoha's life by driving a bear away from her with a soccer ball. This endeared her to him, but unfortunately didn't do anything for her personality otherwise. Hiroto dislikes Konoha because she's pushy and cruel. He likes Sasami because she's one of the few girls who can match him in Dodgeball skills. He has a crush on Misao, though he keeps it a secret as it would simply rile Konoha. My Hiroto is very much the same, except 17.

Quote: Hmph... can't compare to a Magical Girl. How sad.

Konoha Haida. If not for her courage against some of the monsters of the week and her later revision of her opinion of Misao (she actually complimented Misao's piano playing), I would have gotten rid of her. My Konoha is very cruel to pokegirls. She views them, Sasami and Misao are her opponents for Hiroto's heart. Deep down (very deep down), Konoha is a... more palatable person as she fears what she already knows (that Hiroto likes Misao), but she hides it with her extreme obsessiveness of Hiroto and mean streaks, making her very unlikeable. Some day, she may be forced to face the fact that she's pushing Hiroto away.

Quote: It's my homemade cake. Won't you have some?

Honoka Kawai is Sasami's mother. She's quite friendly and loves to make food for guests. The original ran CD Vision, a CD store. Mine does too.

Quote: It was hard bringing in those oxygen canisters, but I brought three in at once.

Ginji Kawai is Sasami's father. He's a man of infinite talents. Were he a video game character, he could be the character who used all the cheat codes for character development. There's very few skills he doesn't have. Of those listed in original series are this: Stunt man, delivery man, fireman, NASA astronaut, special SWAT agent, dodgeball instructor (he taught Sasami special manuevers that wouldn't have been discovered otherwise).

Quote: MISAO! KOTOE!

Shigeki Amano is Misao's father. He's a concert pianist and travels all the time. Unfortunately, this means he doesn't come home very often, though we see in the series that he does truly love his family. From the fact that he sells out shows everywhere he goes, we can deduce that he's attempting to make a nest egg upon which will pay for he and his wife's retirement as well as Misao's college education. My Shigeki makes a note of returning home every six months. The picture is actually of Tenchi Muyou! villian Kagato, but his picture is the closest I could come to the real Shigeki, who has dark brown hair, brown eyes and a much less pale flesh tone. I'd use the real Shigeki, but it's F*%@#ing impossible to get a pic of him.

Quote: Misao-chan

Kotoe Amano is Misao's mother. She loves Misao dearly, but unfortunately, the high cost of living has forced her to work during hours when Misao is at home. Kotoe loves her daughter and wants the best for her. My Kotoe makes an effort to be at home whenever Misao is ill or injured.

Quote: But it does look delicious... er, I mean, how dare she eat cake while there's a crisis. Some Magical Girl she is.

Sasami's traveling aunt. The original Tsunami's ranged from the oldest Juraian tree that used her power to restore Sasami from mortal injury to being an absent-minded Queen of the Magical Kingdom Juraihelm. My Tsunami is a Watcher.

Quote: NA HA HA HA HA HA HA!!!

Ramia the original was Tsunami's rival as a candidate for the Queen of Juraihelm. From the original drawings I saw, Ramia was supposed to be blonde. Anyway, Ramia, angry that Tsunami was chosen instead of her, created Pixy Misa (aka. a mind-controlled Misao) to interfere with Pretty Sammy (aka. Sasami). My Ramia is instead Eimi Date's aunt and guardian. She began thresholding late in life and would have lost her home if it weren't for Ginji Kawai.

Quote: They call me Pixy Misa!

Pixy Misa the original was actually Misao manipulated by Ramia's magic to become Pixy Misa. In the Magical Project S universe, Pixy Misa was actually Misao's other half (or in layman's terms, Misao's unrestrained half). My Misa is a domesticate Naga who has an incredibly deep fear of being abandoned. She also has a formed an attachment to Misao.
