OCFL DRAFT DAY ONE
Mood:  party time!
Day one was a roller coaster of emotion for Viking faithful. The Purple Gang is back! With 10 defensive selections on day one, the Vikes are assured one of the finest defenses in the league.

The first decision was to pass up Ray Lewis in favor of Probowler Julian Peterson, who plays outside linebacker better than almost everyone in the NFL and just as well as Lavar Arrington, selected right in front of him by the So Cal Sun. At 25, he could anchor the defense for a decade.

Round two saw the the Vikes pleasantly surprised to find CB Dre' Bly still on the board and immediately snapped up a second Probowler in as many rounds.

In rounds three and four, Minnesota acquired two more player projected as second round picks and there were "high fives" in the warroom each time, as another shutdown cornerback was availible, Marcus Coleman and one of the best FS in the game joined the team in round 4, Jerome Woods.

In round 5 after Corey Chaveous was picked by New Orleans and when Warren Sapp was picked by St Louis, the Vikings had to scramble and still got Robaire Smith, a 5 rated DT. We did not pick a SS here, since after Chaveous, there were many good ones still on the board.

In round 6, the Vikings faced the most critical decision of the day. Because the defensive line talent was going very fast, the only way to hope to build the front seven we wanted, was to take a chance on Peter Sirmon, who is a great player, who never would have made it out of round three, if he hadn't been injured this preseason. He is only 27 and is expected to be back in the NFL next season. He is outstanding in both pass coverage and run support and is the perfect weakside backer to pair with Peterson.

Round Seven: Greg Wesley, SS and at 28, should be there for quite a while and completes a secondary as good as any in the OCFL.
