Summary: When his parents leave for an overnight dinner party, Scott Smith seizes the rare occasion and decides to throw a party of his own. Not only does his suburban teen party give him a golden opportunity to break away from the repressive regime of his parents, it neatly serves a secondary function: the social humiliation of Scott's reclusive, basement-dwelling brother, Steve. Seemingly, Scott's only worry is keeping everything and everyone confined strictly to the kitchen: the basement is off limits due to his war of attrition with Steve, and the rest of the upper floor is a virtual mine-field of domestic obsession, carefully set by his mother. As the varied group of young friends congregates in the kitchen, Scott's parents arrive at their own liquor-fueled party across town. Over the course of the evening, the pent-up tensions of the partygoers?teenagers and parents alike?erupt, leaving a comic trail of dented cars, bloodied noses, mussed carpets... and ruptured lives.
