Help us try to Save Our Maple Trees
In the summer of 2003 Olmsted County upgraded County Road 6 from the I-90 bridge west to Olm. Cty. Rd. 3. At that time they expanded to a 60' easement from the center line.
In the summer of 2003 the county plans on upgraded the road from the intersection with US 63 (Podein's corner) to the bridge over Carey's creek. Just east of Mary Malone's property.
In the summer or 2004 - as of now - the county intends on expanding from the west side of the bridge to the East side of the I-90 bridge. Past our house.
At that time they plan on removing the Maple trees Mary and us have along the roadway. It totals 17 trees.
We would like to convince the county to move the road just a few feet to the south to avoid taking the trees. Or, if they won't move the road, we would like them to consider adding a guard rail along our side (as I believe they would have to do along the river).
Please help us save these trees.
This past spring 10 of these trees produced over 90 gallons of maple sap per day.
As you can see they are very beautiful in the fall.
We estimate them to be over 70 years old.
They have never - to my recollection - been hit by any vehicles leaving the road.
Why take them down just to expand the shoulder a few feet?
