The weapons systems used in World War 2 were quite inaccurate, this is how carpet-bombing came about (Just dropping bombs and destroying everything in your path including innocent people).
The Germans developed the V2 rocket, it was launched from a facility and it landed at a random target, there was no way to tell where it would land and it could even kill it's own people easily. These weapons were terrors in there time, they could level a whole city block.
Tons of bombs were packed into each airplane and dropped near the target, typically the target and everything around it would be destroyed.
