One of the main advantages to using smart bombs (laser-guided, GPS tracking) is that they generally ensure that the bomb will hit the target and will allow the bomb to be dropped from a longer distance away so that the life of the pilot won't be in danger. However, there are even some planes that don't need people in them, they don't cost as much as regular bombers. These planes don't have a very large payload and they can easily be shot down.
