Advantages and Disadvantages
System Types|Accidents|
Advantages/Disadvantages|Air to Air Systems|Future
Advantages:
It doesn't take many bombs to destroy a target
The pilots life is less at risk because the pilot doesn't need to be as close to the target as previously
They can be dropped in a room within a target.
A video taken from Afghanistan showed an enemy target being taken out and the surrounding places
with civilians totally unharmed
They can be dropped from unmanned aircraft, which are less expensive and don't put someone's life on the line
Disadvantages:
Some of the bombs rely on the pilot to guide them. Pilots have to keep an eye on flying and on guiding the bomb.
Cost a lot more than regular bombs, they can cost $50,000 for a kit to upgrade a dumb bomb to a laser-guided and $18,000 for a satellite guidance.
