How are they tested
In the case of missiles and bombs, small "dummy" targets are set up and a bomber flies over and hits it direct center. A camera is used to determine exactly where it hit. Generally, bombs that can hit the target more than half the time are accepted.
One system is undergoing an unusual test. The "Ultimate Soldier" system contains:
- A gun mounted camera. This helps to prevent soldiers from putting more of their body around a corner to see if an enemy is there.
- A map screen with uplinks. This screen contains information about the terrain of the area, it is uplinked to a central base where coordinates of targets are put in to tell the soldier where they are and where to go.
- Voice communications. Troops are able to talk to others very easily.
- All of this is mounted on an M-16.
However I can see a few problems with this system:
