People on the Internet

There are people all over the world on the Internet. You can be in a chat room with someone from Japan while sitting in New York (ok, you might not understand what their saying, but your still talking). Millions of people worldwide have access to the Internet.

Hundreds of millions of people on the Internet creates the need for a lot of Internet Service Providers and can slow down popular ones. Some very popular ISP's are America Online, @Home (a cable company), CompuServe, Earthlink, Qwest.

Of course there are the bad people of the Internet. People who illegally download software and create viruses that can kill your computer. Viruses are another result of widespread availability of the Internet. People make viruses just to create chaos for others, they download an attachment and run it and sometime later, their computer may never work again. The chances of getting a virus are less if you know how to avoid them:

Don't open attachments from emails, even if someone you know sent you an attachment, scan it anyway

Never download anything from a source you don't trust
