Fine & Performing Arts

Artists can be self employed, work for companies or artists guilds, etc. Artists aren't paid the highest wages. Some have a second job to pay bills. Training usually starts at very young ages and some may stop their profession when they reach their mid or late 30's. After they stop however many may continue to teach or do other things in the field. Landing a job is tough because of the competition. If you're passionate about it and willing to work though you have a higher chance of success. Skills you would want to be successful could be:

  • Creativity
  • Determination
  • Self-Confidence
  • Physical Strength, flexibility and stamina

Job Outlook by mnCareers.org: Like other art-related fields, fine and performing art workers face fierce competition. Thousands of young people dream of being musicians, dancers, actors and artists. But, few actually make a living at it. Because of this competition, few openings exist each year for most jobs. Some jobs, like graphic designer and art director, have more openings. The overall outlook for fine and performing artists is good. Opportunities continue to be created by technology changes. Art directors have opportunities to coordinate website and online projects. Musicians and artists can find openings to work on websites, games and CDs. Graphic designers must remain up-to-date with the current computer software available for both print and web-based projects.
