The Osiran Legacy--Chapter Nine

XIA #3--Doctor Who, Indiana Jones, and the Osiran Legacy
Chapter 9: The Five Faces of Fear
By: The Outsider

The Doctor didn't know where he was.

One moment, he was talking to Clark and the others.

 The next, big black nowhere.

"Well," he spoke out loud to the darkness, "it's not like I haven't been here before."

He began to walk through the nothingness.

Indy couldn't move, petrified by the sight of the snakes pouring from the statue's mouth. The same statue that was moving ever closer to him.

"Move!" shouted Benny, grabbing his arm and spinning him out of the path of the statue. Slow moving, it was unable to react, and continued to shamble along.

The tribesmen were closing in fast. Already, Marcus had disappeared into their midst.

Benny grab the handle of Indy's whip as it trailed past her, pulled by the statue. With a mighty yank, she managed to not only dislodge the whip, but sent the statue spinning into the crowd of tribesmen.

In the confusion, she pulled Indy from the room and began to run down the corridor.

The Doctor stopped when the voice ordered him to.

"You know, there's no one else here but me. You don't have to shout like that." He planted his umbrella point first into the non-existent ground and leaned on the handle. "Besides, it's about time you made your appearance. It's considered rather impolite to yank someone off to the astral plane and then leave him waiting about, you know."

He pulled out his watch and glanced at it. "Oh, come on now. Stop pouting and show yourself."

Five wavering images spun out of the darkness and began weaving around the Doctor.

"I AM THE MIGHTY RA! TREMOR AT MY POWER!"

"I AM SET! FEAR MY ETERNAL PRESENCE!"

"I AM OSIRIS! BOW DOWN BEFORE MY OVERWHELMING TERROR!"

 "I AM BAST! THE MIGHTY!"

"I AM HORUS! THE ALL KNOWING!"

The Doctor stifled a yawn as he finished counting on his fingers. "Yes, yes, yes... I know who you are. I know what you are. And, I know why you are here- to stop your fellow Osiran from spreading war across the planet Earth."

"NO DOCTOR," THE VOICES ECHOED LOUDLY IN UNISON, "WE ARE HERE TO ASSIST IN THE GLORIOUS DESTRUCTION."

The Doctor stared at the faces swirling around him like a bad horror movie.

 "Oh, bugger."

Bernice turned and tossed the whip to Indy. Startled, he almost dropped before recognizing it for what it really was. Benny shrugged. Tough guy one moment, scared of a little snake the next. It's not like they were Daleks or something really scary.

He stopped. "We've got to go back for Marcus," he said.

Benny stopped running. Panting, she looked at him. "Too late. The tribesmen have surely taken care of him by now. We have to look after ourselves now."

Indy snarled at her. "Look, future girl, where I come from, we take care of our friends." He roughly grabbed her upper arms, his rugged face inches from hers.

Benny glared back at him, at his deep, enigmatic eyes...

 His lips...

She shook her head and pulled free of his grasp. "He's not even my type," she thought to herself.

 "Liar," she thought back.

Behind them, tribal yells could be heard more loudly now. A mummy arm flew through the air and slammed into the wall behind Benny's head.

"Come on!" Indy yelled, reaching out for her hand.

Benny took it, and they began to run again.

"You can't destroy this planet!" the Doctor shouted indignantly at the floating heads. "It has a long future ahead of it! I know, I've seen it."

"WORRY NOT, DOCTOR. YOU WILL NOT FEEL PAIN FOR LONG. IT HAS ALREAEDY BEGUN."

"No!" the Doctor snarled into the face of Clark, who was snapping his fingers at the Doctor.

"Sorry!" Clark said, stepping back. "But you left us there for a few seconds."

"We've run out of time... our psychotic Osiran friend has summoned reinforcements."

The Doctor stopped, breathed in deeply, and counted to 10. In Venusian.

"Xicowl, I need you to gather your fellow priests. We will need all the help we can find."

 "Doctor," said Clark.

"Not now, I'm thinking," replied the Doctor, his brow furrowed as we walked in a circle.

 "But, Doctor..."

 "Oh, what is it?"

Clark pointed to the German soldiers surrounding them, weapons pointed and ready.

The Doctor shook his head. "This is not what we need..."

On the surface of Mars, three giant pyramids began to rise through the red sands, forming the points of a triangle of roughly 300 miles per side. The tops began to glow with wild energy.

"Quick... in here!" shouted Benny, pulling Indy into a side room. Their pursuers were close behind them. A single empty sarcophagus sat in the center of the room. Benny ran to it.

"Just enough room for the two of us," she said.

"Really, Miss Summerfield... shouldn't I at least get to take you out to dinner first?" replied Indy, smirking.

Benny rolled her eyes. "Oh, shut up and get in! The tribesmen are getting closer." She smiled wickedly.

"You never know, they may have a few pet snakes with them..."

Indy leapt into the sarcophagus. Benny shook her head and crawled in on top of him, pulling the lid nearly shut on top of them.

And snatched her fingers back as the lid slammed shut on its own. "Uh oh," she said.

"Uh oh? What's uh oh mean?" demanded Indy.

A voice began to speak in deadened tones from the lid. "Hibernation sequence engaging."

 "What did it say? Benny!"

Gas began to blast into the confined space.

"Oh, drat," Benny said, and impulsively kissed Indy as she blacked out...
