Just
so you know, I am not a Magic rep.
These are my tips and you could play by a very different style.
I
can’t stress enough to put as much mana as you can into one deck. It always pays off in the long run.
Spectrum decks have their advantages and their drawbacks. They have all colors backing each other up
so that a card that has abilities that only work on certain colors aren’t as
potent. However, especially with
beginners with little mana, playing with 5 different types is difficult. Personally, I can’t manage to utilize them
very well.
On the other hand, mono decks
aren’t that good, either. You’ll have
no trouble with mana, but cards that lash out at that specific color or have
landwalk will smoke you. Moral: don’t
use them.
Now that I’ve told you what
types of decks not to build, what does seem to work well to
combine the good sides of both spectrum decks and mono decks is a deck with 2
or 3 colors, which you’ll notice on my decks page is what most of them are.
Try to find combinations with
your cards. They’ll be very helpful
during games.
Try to find what colors go with
your personality. Then, use those
colors in your deck (ex. I am fairly non-aggressive and as such play white,
blue, and green decks very well.).
Do not build your deck around
one powerful card, because then you have to wait for that card to really get
your strategy going. Then again, that
can sometimes work very well, if there are multiple copies of that card in your
deck.
Get a good strategy going on
your deck. Don’t just use white and
blue cards; find white cards that heal, blue spells and counter spells, and creatures
from both colors, in this case, probably some walls and small, defensive
creatures.
