Alex Comfort |
A while back I came across a reference to Alex Comfort in Kenneth Rexroth's biography, wrote the name down, and forgot about it. When I was doing research for this web page I stumbled across his name again and dug some dusty old books out from the University library. I can only say that these poems are amazing. They're passionate and intelligent, clear and complex. He's quickly become one of my favorite poets. His poetry is rare and hard to find so grab it up if you see it. The biography from Visions of Poesy isALEX COMFORT born 1920. Poet, novelist, songwriter, physician... Wrote tons of poetry "A wreath for living, Elegies, The Song of Lazarus, France, The signal to Engage, And All but He Departed, Haste to the Wedding, and Poems for Jane. Also the novels The Power House and The Philosophers. His many essays incl Arts and Social Responsibility, The novel of our time, Barbarism and Sexual Freedom, Sex In Society, and Authority and Delinquincy in the Modern State. He was the author of the popular Joy Of Sex books. I just read that he died in early march of 2000. If anyone has any of his writings I'd really like to read them.
