La Malinche - or as we liked to call it ... The Malinche
So there we were. Me, Omar, Paul, Ray (and the boy with the guitar?). Let me set the scene for you: Four men get on a bus from Cuernavaca at noon on Friday with one destination in mind - The peak of La Malinche. La Malinche is the second tallest Volcano in Mexico, and was going to be our challenge for the weekend. Three bus transfers, 8 hours of traveling later, and one purchased Watermelon and Pineapple later ... we got to the base of the monster.
From there it was just a quick overnight at basecamp, followed by a tasty meal of Tacos Suprise (the suprise was the meat type!), and a two day treck straight up the cliff of the beast. See, they don't believe in things like "switchbacks" or "rest sites" or "trails" in Mexico. Just a straight climb up loose screw, dirt, trash, and whatever else. Half the time you had to look out for children rolling past you like boulders on a slope.
Nevertheless, we trecked on and made it to the top. But that's enough of my babbling, why don't you just take a gander yourself.

The base of La Malinche

Ok, this was the starting point. Follow my finger to the peak in the distance (between the trees). That's the goal!

Day #1 - the "trails" as we make our ascent.

The Campsite for the night (about 1/2 of the way up). Notice the slant.

Day #2 - climbing up the broad empty face

This seems close, but still about 2 hours to go.

So close! ... and so close to crashing down in a rockslide!

And finally, we made it to the top, cracked open the pineapple, and cried as we thought about descending again.
