Announcer : Someday her prince will come and by the looks of the diamond on her left hand he's talking love and marriage. Tonight on the Scene
Paul Castrino : Mayte is a dancer & back up singer for the artist we were formerly allowed to call prince, now I, we're not suppose to call him anything but a symbol. I just call him money bags
Tamera Jones : Um hmm, Well Mayte might be calling him hubby soon. Tina Malave checked out that rock on her finger and got the whole scoop
(Cut to Tina Malave)
Tina Malave : So some people just seem to have everything in live, and Mayte Garcia is one of those people. She's beautiful, She's talented and it looks like she just might be the new Princess.
(Cuts to Morning Papers video, where O(+> & Mayte are walking around the zoo)
Tina Malave : If you've seen any of his videos lately the past couple of years, you've probably seen her too. So lets find out how it all began.
(Cuts to close up of Mayte talking to Tina Malave)
Mayte : I started dancing at the age of 3. Classical Ballet and Arabic belly dancing. And then I moved on to jazz, modern, ballet, flameco and a tap.
(While she is talking, cuts to That's Incredible performance)
(Cuts back to Mayte talking)Mayte : I met, back then he was Prince, I met him at the age of 16. I was living in Europe, dancing professionally and in school still.
(While she is talking cuts to Love 2 the 9's video, where she is interacting with Tony M.)
Mayte : So we kept in contact, and then at the age of 18 he asked me to join the new power generation.
Tina Malave : Mayte was in town to promote her soon to be released album, Child of the Sun. It should be a good one, considering who helped her with it.
(Cuts back to Mayte being interviewed, she is wearing a black & white top that goes off the shoulder, but has spagetti straps holding it up, and a pair of black pants)
Mayte : He wrote all the songs, and umm, he produced it, he produced it (laughs while she says produced it the first time, because the word just wouldn't come out properly)
Mayte : There's alittle bit of everything, there's a techno track, there's a house track, there's a latin, there's an arabic track, so it kinda has alittle bit of everything.
(Cuts to the Video for If I Love U 2night)
Mayte : If ~ } u 2night was actually done for Mica Paris, It was written for her. When I was recording my album we were, we heard like a demo that he had done of it. And he was like "you know that's a really good song, you should do it". And then I listened to the lyrics, and I was like yeah, ya know I can relate to the song, ya know, and the people in my age ya know, they think about relationships, so I did it and ya know, it, it just, I liked it (Giggles)
(Cuts back to Mayte being Interviewed)
Tina Malave : So when do we get to see a performance
Mayte : Were starting on a world tour, Umm, The Artist Formerly known as Prince, in January in Japan, and were gonna cover everything, were gonna do the US, probably in March / April around there, I'll Play my album, and he'll play his, and the NPG they also have an album, it's called Exodus.
(Cuts into part of the video for the Max where she is getting out of a limo and continues while she is talking)
Mayte : Were all kinda in each other's albums, it's really, it's great, it's like a family. I play on their's and they play on mine, and we all play on his.
Tina Malave : Alright, now let's get to the really important question.
Mayte : Relationship, We have a work relationship, Recording relationship, friend relationship, and I can honestly say I love him (Counts this out on her fingers, after thinking about it for a second)
(Shows close up of a huge diamond ring on Mayte's left hand)
Tina Malave : Okay so now were gonna get deep down and dirty
(Mayte Giggles)
Tina Malave : What do we have on your left hand here Mayte?
Mayte : A ring, on a left hand. (Smiling and asking kinda coy)
(Cuts to Merry Go Round part of Three Chain's o' Gold while they are talking)
Tina Malave : When he gave you the gift, was he standing up, was he sitting down, was he on one knee?
Mayte : (Giggling again) You know, I don't really remember, I was to into the ring. So I don't really remember
Tina Malave : Now I'm sure you're all wondering, what does she call him?
(Cuts to the Symbol)
Mayte : I have never called him
Tina Malave : Okay
Mayte : I've never had too, and I never saw him as that person. So when he changed his name, I never really had a problem, it was like "Oh, okay, I never called you that anyway" so, great.
Tina Malave : Do you call him like snookims or anything like that?
Mayte : (Giggling) No, No
Tina Malave : Well after that there's only one thing I can really say and that's "Mayte, you go girl"
