The Encounter- Chapter one

By Mallard
Space was a vast expanse. But for Lannod Wahes on Stardate 10440.6 it seemed to wrap around him, choking him. He pushed his chair back angrily. He thought of a simpler time, a time where he was with his four brothers and sisters on a farm in Oregon and he would play in the field with them and his friends. He could remember them playing army and how they were the only ones stopping the Romulans from attacking the farm, and now of all places he was in a shuttlecraft on a space mission. He could also remember in school, where he was the bookworm and they teased him. Too much. Well, the only reason that he was on the Eluryh was to prove that he was a man. “Jardi, where are we?” said the captain. The captain was more to think about. Lannod thought he would of done a better job. “296, mark 5! There’s a large sun and a temporal disturbance so we had better watch out!” Jardi Dragren’s voice rang out across the deck. He was lucky enough to get on the Eluryh without any flying knowledge. But he had a great mind, so he got on. And then there was First Mate Arno Cashtim who loved being the number two on the ship. Then again, there were only seven of us of us. I was on that ship. That’s how I know. By the way, my name is Aaron. I was the sort of the cabin boy. Then there was Ashley Morris. I thought she was the epitome of love. As I soon knew, she wasn’t the half of it. “Coming into the Hyli system!” Then I heard the captain shout “Take the watch, Aaron!” I liked doing the watch because it gave me a chance to relax and to just think about what strange planets were out there. Suddenly the red alert started blaring: “Alert! Alert! Unidentified flying objects off to starboard!” “What is that?!” cried Arno. Three streaks of red, blue, and green zipped past. “What’s their speed?” said the captain. “Sir, according to readouts they were going at-Oh, dear sweet mother! This is impossible! Incalculable speeds!” I thought, oh man this is weird.....then the voice of Lannod broke the silence. “Sir, engineering has a slight problem,” Oh yeah, there were engineers too. “Captain, we’ve gone out of control! We’re headed toward that sun,” Then Ashley calmly said: “Sir, sensors detect a temporal disturbance!” “Wormhole....” I heard somebody muttter. Have you ever seen a movie where they are in a freezing time area or something? Well, this was like that only ten times worse. First, it was like someone was trying to tear the ship apart, then it got hot, then really cold, then it happened. We were being thrown around the ship when we were frozen in some kind of time trap, I’m not sure. Then we came out of it and suddenly we were hurtling towards a field....

I couldn’t wait for next morning, and when it came, I bounded out of the treehouse and rushed to the Deku Tree Sprout to show him. “You looketh great! Huh?! What?! Link! Dost thou sense it!?” “Yeah....even I can! What is it?” I said, ready for anything that might be evil. “It’s something I cannot discern. Maybe Saria would know!” said the wise sprout. “Yeah! I’ll go ask her!” I said. When I got to her house, she shrugged. “I don’t know. It’s something,” Just then we heard a noise that could match Ganon’s magic any day. It was a loud whistling sound. It crashed into Hyrule Field.

“AHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!” screamed Ashley. I did nothing. Maybe I was a little queasy but having spent a year of your life on roller coasters I guess maybe it was time to cut back. We crashed. The captain flew forward and crashed into the window. We managed to hold on. As soon as we got out, Jardi yelled: “Roswell eat your heart out!” Lannod said “This reminds me too much of Planet of the Apes,” Then we saw the captain. “He-he’s dead!” said Ashley. We conducted a burial service for him and the engineers. Then we trudged to what we later would know as Kokiri Forest.

“Wowwwww! What a neat place!” was Ashley’s reaction. We all liked it. And there was a certain something in the air. “Look! What are they? Little elves!” said Ashley. “So where’s Santa Claus?!” wisecracked Jardi. “Hahaha,” I said. “Haha yourself, kid!” retorted Jardi. “I guess since the captain isn’t with us, we can explore!” said Ashley. I knew if we were going to explore, she was the one to do it. “I am Mido. These are my assistants Link and Nigel. Who are you, and where do you come from?” said the elf named Mido. “We come from a planet called Earth. We come on behalf of the United Federation. We want to have friendship with your people,” said Arno, looking like he was having a good time. The elves were amazed, we thought, because of our height or something but then one of the elves said: “You speak our language? These outsiders must be very powerful!” and then they fell down and almost started worshipping us but then “Mr. Peace” as Jardi calles himself came up and took matters into his own hands. “Break it up, what are you doing? We are not gods or anything if that’s what you think. We are just normal people from another planet!” Well that got them up and belligerent. Kind of. Then the one named Nigel said we should go to the Great Deku Tree Sprout. “The what?! Is this a joke?!! A tree for a leader?!!!” but just then a beautiful green-haired girl slapped a towel over Jardi’s face and told him to be quiet. I thought of how such a pretty girl could do such a thing. I didn’t know. We stopped in a clearing. I looked around and then I saw a weird sight. There was a tree the size of me there! (And I’m ten...) Well, leave it to Jardi to get us in hot water. He said “A sapling!? For a leader?! Well, I’ll be!” It was all he could get out before a bolt shot from what seemed like the tree! Jardi was knocked out and I could see a bad bruise. Oh well, we thought, and then listened to the tree.

I woke with a start. I had never had a dream like that before. The characters in it weren’t bad, but they were not the best people to hit Hyrule either. Oh yeah, I almost forgot. I’m Princess Zelda, in case none of you have heard of me. It was about something crashing into Hyrule Field, I wasn’t sure. It happened so fast. Then Hyrule had changed a lot in five seconds. It became more....more...strange....I didn’t worry about it too much. At least it wasn’t about Ganon. That’s the last thing we needed! But I didn’t know that the soft light I had seen that evening and that horrid sound had fulfilled my dream.

“Princess? I need to talk to you!” said Link, tiptoeing in to avoid being seen by the guards. “What! Oh, it’s you! I was wondering when you would show up!” I said. “Well, why wouldn’t I with a beautiful face like yours?” said a teasing Link. “Oh grow up! What did you want?” I laughed. “There are these people that say they are from another planet that seem to speak perfect Hylian. They also have very strange customs, and they claim to come on the behalf of the United Federation of Planets. Ever heard of them?” said Link. “No, I can’t say that I have...you know, we ought to put more emphasis on astronomy! We could discover new planets! Anything we want! Anyway, they may be a trick of Ganon? But it’s only been six months since we banished him. Perhaps he’s out, or at least, coming,” I mused. “You know, I liked you better when you were seventeen, princess!” said Link, teasing. “You liar!” I giggled. While we were having that talk, Saria noticed that Link was missing. She later told me, I have no idea why. “Oh brother! Always flirting with that gag of a princess Zelda! (I don’t know why she told me that part either) Or maybe with one of the thousand other girls in Hyrule! He never notices where his heart really is......”

Impa watched as the two kids talked about the strange people in the forest. She had questions of her own to ask those men. The Sheikah knew that these kids were smart. Link couldn’t have beaten Ganon if he hadn’t had the smarts to do it. Zelda wouldn’t be a princess if she weren’t smart. Or would she? Impa turned her attention back to the two heroes. It looked like they were-oh brother, Impa thought. Now they were hugging! What would come next? A big kiss? She thought it would start when they were seventeen. It looked like they were getting an early start on their love lif
