The Encounter- Chapter nine

By Mallard

“Zelda! You’re alive! How do we get out?!” I yelled. “I don’t know! Where are we?” she yelled back. “Will you two quit your whining? Let’s actually do something!” burst Aaron. I felt the crystal jerk and then it felt like we were being lowered to the ground. They broke open and then I saw the Sages. Whew, that was a close one, I thought. I looked at Saria. Same old smile as ever, but something was troubling her. Darunia was still his same old smiling self. Ruto, she was grinning at me from ear to ear. I think everyone who has ever seen her can say that she is a very annoying Zora. Impa, now there’s a good person. I could only wonder what Zelda’s days were like with her. Nabooru, heh heh, did I mention I have an appointment? All right, she was standing there, trying to be seductive, but I don’t think so! Yeah, I couldn’t resist, so I went up to Saria and picked her up. I think that helped her. Darunia gave me a bear-hug before I could do anything. He winked at me. I winked back. I gave Ruto a, pat on the back. She looked annoyed. I heard someone snickering. Well, it was Zelda. I would soon start giving her the affectionate nickname of “Zel”. Impa had tears in her eyes. We knew that we were both thinking about a certain someone whom we both loved very much. Nabooru and me we, uh, shook hands. “Gosh, Link! The first person you have romance with in your honest adult life is Saria, for crying out loud!” Well, that was the first of many occasions that Zelda got jealous just because I hugged someone. After all, who can resist a lifelong friend? “Hey, I’m not crying! It’s more like you are!” I teased. “Link!” she said. “Okay, let’s break up this little lovebird conversation, I got a score to settle with a certain pig who messed up a certain guys arm seven years ago!” said Aaron. “Do you know that we are in front of the Sages? Some of the most powerful people in Hyrule?!” I retorted. “Why, thank you, Link!” said Zelda, trying to look very ravishing. “Yeah, whatever, Zel.” I said. I looked down. We were in Hyrule Field. Zelda doubled up laughing. Aaron shook his head. I ordered everyone back to the castle. We had a long way to go.

Home. It was good to be back at the castle after a seven year absence, during which a new princess had been elected. My first royal proclamation as a princess was to boot the person out. Her name was Princess, oh I can’t remember. Don’t blame me, blame the guy who put me in a crystal for seven years! Well, my second proclamation (much to my father’s horror) was that I can date anyone I want. Including Link. My first date with the hero himself came a couple of weeks later. Link had been visiting the Kokiri, Gorons, just about anyone you can think of. My father declared Link a goodwill ambassador on behalf of Hyrule. You can be sure Link was storming up those steps Saturday night! Well, for our date, but he wasn’t too happy about spending his days going around to all the neighboring kingdoms like Calatia and everywhere else you can imagine. Daddy laughed it off and said there is nothing you can do about it, so go on you little lovebirds and I’ll stay home and wish I were seventeen. “Yeah, Your Majesty, we will just step out now! See you later!” said Link. Poor Link, he really struggled through that! It was perfect, simply perfect! When we got back he dropped me off and gave me a kiss. I fell in bed that night very happy, not even remembering the menace that we would soon have to deal with.
