A PHOTO JOURNEY AROUND CHURCH AT UMCAL THE WEEK OF SUNDAY, JUNE 12, 2011...EDDIE COCHRAN WEEKEND

Sunday we celelebrated 2 birthdays...PENTECOST--the birthday of the CHURCH along with EDDIE COCHRAN'S birthday, a confirmand of our church....and CELEBRATE WE DID!

Entering to WORSHIP started with a look at some CLASSIC CARS along with some CLASSIC PEOPLE like Ann and Don reminding us of what it was like back in the 50s.

Inside, many of those attending today's ROCK 'N ROLL SERVICE wore clothes that were worn in the 1950's like Sharon (with a pony tail and all) and Ruth with her smile and dimples!

There was this ANNOUNCEMENT of an upcoming TEA EVENT that was also posted in the NARTHEX--back to the FUTURE!

At 10:45 the music started and the PRAISE TEAM was ready to ROCK AND ROLL!

Andrew from ABC New, Channel 6 in Austin was at the service to record the entire service for broadcast hopefully on the Sunday night news at 10pm and perhaps the Early morning news on Monday morning beginning at 5:30 am.

JESUS IS THE ROCK AND HE ROLLS MY SINS AWAY! was one of the songs we all sang and with lots of pep and meaning!

Pastor Tommy (the way it was) was dressed in the 50's ROCK STYLE too! Jeans, a leather jacket and shades is the NEW 50s!

When Pastor Tom invited the YOUNGSTERS to come up, a lot did--like about 9 or 17--COOL!

Crystal was more interested in Andrew and the TV camera than she was with Pastor Tom talking about the Scripture lesson!

Pastor Tom had a RED BANDANA for ALMOST every kid for them to wear as a head band. He called it a DO RAG as it is red and DOes remind us of PENTECOST--the celebration of the birthday of the church some 2000 years ago--RAD!

As the offering was to be taken, the band played "I WILL FOLLOW HIM" and coming down the center aisle was this "SISTER ACT"...Sisters Pat, JoAnn, Shelby and Sue! In a prayerful tone, they sang the song while the collection was being taken and as they finished WE ALL GAVE IT UP FOR THEM with a long round of applause! Their song was a "HABBIT" we could all get into hearing again and again!

As the service wound down, Pastor Tom said that God would not mind if anyone wanted to start DANCING IN THE AISLES....Bridget and Danica decided to do just that!

As the PRAISE TEAM finished up, you can also see here Neal Lang who with his wife Barb (behind the singers) on the keyboard provided much of the back up music. Todd was also on the drums today and EVERYONE ON THE PRASIE TEAM did just that--PRAISED GOD with music from the 50s--it was SUPER!

The service was followed by a SLOPPY JOE and CHIPS lunch in the Social Hall--the way METHODISTS love to end a service--by EATING, be it the 50s or the 2011s!

Pastor Tom and Jill were definitely a "cute couple" in the 50s but are soon headed BACK TO THE FUTURE as they leave with the MISSION TRIP on Saturday for New Orleans! We learned today that "HE'S GOT THE WHOLE WORLD IN HIS HANDS"--from the wind and the rain to the little bitty babies to you and me brother and sister! They are leading the team to bring some HOPE and SUPPORT to this part of the world (New Orleans) in CHRIST'S NAME because we're all in God's hands TOGETHER!
