7/12/2001: Cherokee Park/Irvine Park (St. Paul)

Join Larry Martin for a hike between St. Paul's bluff top Cherokee Park to historic Irvine Park, the oldest residential area in St. Paul, over the historic High Bridge.

If coming by car: Take I-94 east to the west edge of downtown St. Paul and take the Fifth Street exit. At the intersection with West Seventh Street, go west (right) on West Seventh Street and proceed a few blocks to Smith Avenue. Turn south (left) onto Smith Avenue and proceed across the High Bridge to St. Paul's West Side and Cherokee Park. At the south end of the High Bridge, turn west (right) onto Cherokee Boulevard and proceed two blocks, then veer South (left) on Cherokee Avenue and proceed two blocks. There, at the tennis courts, turn west (right) onto Baker Street and proceed to the Cherokee Park overlook parking lot, at the intersection of Baker Street, Chippewa Avenue, and Cherokee Boulevard. Meet at the north side of the parking lot.

If coming by public transit: Take Metro Transit route(s): 67; 477. The closest bus service point appears to be the corner of Smith Avenue and George Street, one block south of the south end of the High Bridge. Applicable Metro Transit Map / Bus Schedule information
