September 14, 2000: Lake Street USA Portrait Photography Hike (Minneapolis)

9/14: Lake Street USA Portrait Photography Hike (Minneapolis)

Join Larry Martin for a hike along the eastern portion of Lake Street in Minneapolis to view the photography exhibit "Lake Street USA". During August - October, 2000, Minnesota-born photographer Wing Young Huie is exhibiting 600 of his photographs of the residents of and visitors to Lake Street in store windows and comparable venues along the length of the street from Lake Calhoun to the Mississippi River. The portraits, which represent four years of work by artist Huie, range in size from 11" x 19" to 8' x 12', and are hosted by cooperating merchants and store owners. Huie previously did an award-winning photographic portrait of the Frogtown section of St. Paul. We will hike the east section of Lake Street from Bloomington Avenue to East River Parkway. To preview the exhibit or to obtain more information about photographer Wing Young Huie, go to websites http://lakestreetusa.walkerart.org and http://www.walkerart.org/gallery9/huie.

We will meet in the parking lot of the new Midtown YWCA, 2121 East Lake Street, which is located four blocks east of the intersection with Cedar Avenue and three blocks west of the intersection of Lake Street and Hiawatha Avenue/Highway 55. Please park on the east side of the parking lot, away from the facility, so we do not interfere with YWCA visitors.

Reconvene at the Lake Street Garage restaurant, 3508 East Lake Street, afterwards for dinner or dessert.
