Feline Poetry And Pictures For You To Enjoy.

These are a few poems that have to do with cats that I have collected. Credit is given to the authors if known.Most of these came from a compilation called "The Poetical Cat: an anthology" edited by Felicity Bast. I liked them so much that I wanted to share them.

"THE CAT OF CATS" by William Brighty Rands
I am the cat of cats. I am
The everlasting cat!
Cunning, and old, and sleek as jam.The everlasting cat!

"THE CAT'S EYE" by Yorie
In the eyes of the cat
Is the color of the sea,
On a sunny day, in winter.

"CAT'S DREAM" by Pablo Neruda
How neatly a cat sleeps,
sleeps with its paws and its posture,
sleeps with its wicked claws,
and with its unfeeling blood,
sleeps with all the rings-
a series of burnt circles-
which have formed the odd geology
of its sand-colored tail.
I should sleep like a cat,
with all the fur of time,
with a toungue rough as flint,
with the dry sex of fire;
and after speaking to no one,
stretch myself over the world,
over the roofs and landscapes,
with a passionate desire
to hunt the rats in my dreams.

"FROST EYEBROWS" by F.B.
Frost Eyebrows was the favorite cat
Of the Chia-ching Emperor of the Ming;
Her coat was pale blue,
But her eyebrows were white as jade.
And truly Frost Eyebrows
Was herself a skilled courtier.
Where the Emperor wished to go, she led;
Whom the Emperor wished to see, she approached.
Her beauty was unsurpassed;
She seemed deep and wise,
Majestic as the dragons
On His Majesty's embroidered robes.
Frost Eyebrows slept every night on the Emperor's bed,
And when once she did not awaken,
The Emperor made her a tomb on Longevity Mountain,
And set up a stone:
Here Lies a Veritable Dragon.

"ON A CAT, AGEING" by Sir Alexander Grey
He blinks upon the hearth-rug,
And yawns in deep content,
Accepting all the comforts
That Providence has sent.
Louder he purrs, and louder,
In one glad hymn of praise
For all the night's adventures,
For quiet restful days.
Life will go on forever,
With all that cat can wish,
Warmth and the glad procession
Of fish and milk and fish.
Only- the thought disturbs him-
He's noticed once or twice,
The times are somehow breeding
A nimbler race of mice.

"MOON" by William Jay Smith
I have a white cat whose name is Moon;
He eats catfish from a wooden spoon,
And sleeps till five each afternoon.
Moon goes out when the moon is bright
And sycamore trees are spotted white
To sit and stare in the dead of night.
Beyond still water cries a loon,
Through mulberry leaves peers a wild baboon
And in Moon's eyes I see the moon.

"THE KITTEN" by Ogden Nash
The trouble with a kitten is
THAT
Eventually it becomes a
CAT.

"NATIVITE`" by Andre` Spire
The cat lies on her back,
Tender eyed, open mouthed,
Pale curved tongue rose-tipped...
The cat gasps in the night...
A star in the midst of branches
Gleams cold, like the rings
Of a glow-worm moving through leaves.
Now tiny heads and paws swarm
On the cat's belly softly warm.
No wind. A leaf falls.

"BLACK CAT" by Rainer Marie Rilke
A ghost, though invisible, still is like a place
your sight can knock on, echoing; but here
within this thick black pelt, your strongest gaze
will be absorbed and utterly disappear:
just as a raving madman, when nothing else
can ease him, charges into his dark night
howling, pounds on the padded wall, and feels
the rage being taken in and pacified.
She seems to hide all looks that have ever fallen
into her, so that, like an audience,
she can look them over, menacing and sullen,
and curl to sleep with them. But all at once
as if awakened, she turns her face to yours;
and with a shock, you see yourself, tiny,
inside the golden amber of her eyeballs
suspended, like a prehistoric fly.

"There are two means of refuge from the miseries of life ....... music and cats." --Albert Schweitzer

________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ "Spay Day USA," the fifth annual campaign to save the lives of millions of cats and dogs, will take place on Wednesday, February 24, 1999. This is a national campaign, sponsored by the Doris Day Animal League. In its first four years, Spay Day USA has proven to be a phenomenal success as over 250,000 animals have been altered, including over 108,000 in 1998. These spay and neuter surgeries have already prevented literally millions of unwanted puppies and kittens from being born. For 1999, the Doris Day Animal League has set a goal of completing at least 100,000 spays and neuters. Those interested can receive an Action Pack by contacting DDAL at 202-546-1761 or by e-mailing their request, with their name and address, to ddal@aol.com. Please help if you can!

Go read about one of my biggest heroes and influences of all time. A lot of personal information about Theodor Geisel. BUT- be careful, you might have fun. Yes, adults can be interested- I won't tell anyone.

Another truly great author.

Visit a site praising one of the all-time greates bands. May the devil always visit.

If you want to hear part of my song, here it is. My daddy got me hooked on it.

I know that all of you just email me and tell me what you think, but i look rather pathetic with no guestbook entries, so put them in here, ok?
