The World of Sci-Fi

What's up with science fiction?
I started reading sci-fi as a wee lad and I've really never looked back. I read
"Bio of a Space Tyrant" by Peirs Anthony when I was in 7th grade or so. Inevitably
I was introduced to the D&D fantasy genre and read about 27,000 of those books.
That was then. Now I'm in college. Being a history major is cool because I
don't have to do math. But it requires a lot of reading. To read more effectively,
I've found it helps to take breaks during long stretches of heavy-duty history
text consumption and read something fun and light and still intellectually adequate.

Sci-fi is where it's at. Ahh, yeah.

    Star Wars
I've come to realize that the way to see if a person has good taste is to ask them if the movie "Titanic" was better than the movie "Star Wars". If they like "Titanic" more there are only two possible explanations: a) they are a girl between the ages of 12 and 17, or b) they just have bad taste. I think it's only fair to exclude the teenage girls because they are at a very special age where decision making comes either quickly or correctly, but NEVER both. So if you ask them on the spot, without time to think of anything but Leonardo di Caprio, they're bound to screw up. But that is neither here nor there.
