I just acquired the marriage certificate for John E. Hampton and his place of birth has been changed to Livingston County, Illinois, not LaSalle County as stated in the paper.

Services for John E. Hampton

John E. Hampton, 71 years of age, passed away at his home at 1323 W. Rockwell St this morning after having 3 papalytic strokes.

Mr. Hampton was born in LaSalle County, Illinois on December 21, 1858. In 1879 he was maried to Mariah Reynolds and to them were born 5 children. Since 1907 he has been employed in the Kewanee Boiler Plant. Those who survive Mr. Hampton are his wife, 2 daughters Mrs.Ed(Mary)Rosenow, Mrs. Sarah Lisenbee, both of Kewanee, Illinois. 3 sons Alexander, Thomas Hampton, both of Kewanee,Wren of Peoria. There are also 3 grand children and 2 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at the home ,Friday August 2, at 2:30pm. The Rev. MF Oberndorfer Paster of the St. Paul's Evengelical. Luthern Church wil be in charge. The burial will be in Pleasent View Cemetery.

The Death of Thelma and Lawrence Hampton

Thelma died March 26, 1919 on Wednesday. Born Sept. 23, 1915. 3 years old when she died.

Laurence died March 24, 1919 on Monday. Born April 1918. 11 months old when he died.

Thelma Marie Hampton little daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Alexander Hampton, 905 Dewey Ave. died at 5 a.m. as a result of an attack of Influenza Pneumonia. The little girl was 3 yrs. old on Sept 23, of last yr. This is the 2nd death in the family as the result of Influenza Pneumonia. Laurence E. Hampton, the little 11 month old brother of Thelma passed away Mon morning at 8 a.m., just 48 hrs. before the death of his sister.

The surviving relatives include the parents. Mr. & Mrs. Alexander Hampton, a brother Thomas and 4 sisters. Carry May, Lilly Edna, Bertha May, and Alice Faye. As a result of the little girls death the funeral services for Laurence which were to be held this afternoon, have been postponed until 2 p.m. Thurs. afternoon, at which time a double funeral for the children will be held at the home of their Grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. John Hampton, 1323 Rockwell St.

Dr. H.B. Lewis, Paster of the 1st M E(Methodist) Church will conduct the services and burial will be in the Wethersfield Cemetary.

ALEXANDER(ED)HAMPTON

Alexander Hampton died Wednesday, June 28, 1933 in the public hospital. Services will be Saturday at 2:30pm in the chapel of the Plamer & Snare Funeral Home

Visitation will be at the house at 905 Dewey Ave. on Friday. Burial will be at the Wethersfield Cemetery. Mr. Hampton has been with the CB&Q Railroad for many years. For the past 8 years he was flagman at the Main Street Crossing and part of that time was 4 years at the Tremont crossing.

He had written several poems specializing in poetry concerning dangerous railroad crossings.

Born October 1880 in Poplar City, Mason County, Illinois he married Rose Nell Curl on November 24, 1900 in Dewitt, Illinois. He resided in Kewanee for 27 years.

Surviving are his widow Nellie and 9 children. Carrie Johnson, Galesburg; Bertha Vick, Ridott; Alice Johnson; Thomas Edward; Joseph Herbert; Alexander Jr.; Louis Bernard; Nellie Loretta and Edna Marie. Also his mother Mariah(Reynolds)Hampton, brother Wren and 2 sisters Mary(Rosenow); and Sarah(Lisenby). 1 grand child of Kewanee. His father John Edward Hampton and 5 children preceded him in death.

The Death of Rose Nell Hampton

Mrs. Nellie Hampton,75 of Kewanee, Illinois died Thursday night at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Knoxville, Illinois.

The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John William Curl, she was born January 29, 1885 in Dewitt, Illinois. She was married October 23, 1900 to Alexander(Ed)Hampton Sr. in Poplar City, Illinois.

Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Carrie Rollins of Galesburg, Mrs. Bertha Vick of Freeport, Mrs. Loretta Wiley of Cambridge and Mrs. Edna Young of Cambridge; one son, Thomas of Freeport, two sons, Herbert and Alex of Kewanee, a son Louis of Osceola, 10 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three daughters and three sons.

Funeral rites will be held at 3 pm Saturday at the Siefert & Creamer Funeral home, where visitation will be Friday evening.

The Rev. Robert Elden, pastor of the Zion Luthern Chruch will officiate. Interment will be in Wethersfield Cemetery.

The Death of Carrie Rollins

Mrs. Carrie M. Rollins, 69, 1371 E. Dayton St., died Tuesday at 8:45 p.m. at Cottage Hospital.

She was born March 29, 1902 to Alexander and Rose Nell Hampton, in Galva, Illinois.

She married Earl Rollins in Missouri in 1938. He died in 1952.

Surviving are two sons, Earl of Galesburg and Ernest of Oceanside, Calif.; two daughters, Mrs Herman(Doris)Bryant of Galesburg and Mrs. Rober(Margaret)Sprinkle of Coquille, Ore.; four brothers, three sisters and 16 grandchildren.

Funeral will be Friday at 11:30 a.m. at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Chapel, where friends may call Thursday evening. Burial will be at Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens.

The Death of Joseph"Herb"Hampton

My Father

Joseph "Herb" Hampton 81 of Kewanee, Illinois died at 10:10 a.m. Wednesday, March 7, 2001, at Perry Memorial Hospital in Princeton, Ill.

Funeral services will begin at ll a.m. Saturday at the Schueneman-Tumbleson Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert Fould officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Memory Gardens. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of the services at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation or the American Cancer Society.

He was born June 20, 1919 in Kewanee. The son of Alexander and Nellie(Curl)Hampton. He was reared and educated in Kewanee.

He married Lois Stanley October 21, 1944 in Kewanee. She survives as well as two daughters, Marsha(Rick)Laton of Princeton and Janice(Jim)Mercer of Montrose, Iowa; two sisters, Edna Pounders of Kewanee, and Loretta Wiley of Cambridge; two brothers, Lewis Hampton of Kewanee and Alexander Hampton Jr. of St. Louis; four grandchildren, John Cook, Bill Mercer, Tammie Cruz, and Veronica Mercer; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, five sisters and four brothers.

He was employed as a truck driver, driving for 20 years with Kewanee City Lines and 20 years with Boling Trucking Co. He retired in 1981 as a driver with Truck Transport of LaSalle, Illinois.

He was a member of Union Local 722 in LaSalle and was also caretaker for Giant Goose Conservation in Atkinson for eight years.

Services for Lois Hampton

My Mother

Lois E. Hampton, 75, of Kewanee, died at 12:10 p.m. Wednesday, May 30, 2001 at her home.

Graveside services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Evergreen Memorial Gardens, rural Kewanee, with the Rev. Jerry Ralfalko officiating. There willbe o visitation. Memorials may bemade tothe Kewanee Hospital Hospice. Schueneman-Tumbleson Funeral Home is in charge of arrngements.

Lois was born March 2, 1926, in Kewanee, the daughter of Ira and Ellen(Beck)Stanley. She graduated from Kewanee High School in 1944.

She maried Joseph"Herb"Hampton on October 21, 1944, in Kewanee. He preceded her in death March 7, 2001. They had worked as cretakers of the Giant Goose Conservatin Workshop in Atkinson and the Sprotsmans Campgrounds in Geneseo. She enjoyed yard work.

Surviving are two daughters, Marsha(Rick)Laton of Princeton and Janice(Jim)Mercer of Montrose, Iowa; four grandchildren, John Cook,Bill Mercer, Tammie Cruz and Veronica Mercer;and two great grandchildren.

Donald Francis Hampton

Donald Francis, infant passed away Wednesday, August 5, 1925. Son of Alexander and Nellie(curl)Hampton is survived by his parents, 4 sisters; Carrie, Lillie, Bertha and Alice; 4 brothers: Thomas, Herbert, Alexander Jr., and Lewis; Grandparents John and Mariah(reynolds)Hampton, some aunts and uncles.

Funeral services will be held at the residents of the parents at 2:30pm Friday. Reverend E.A. Tower, Pastor of the 1st Baptist Church will reside over the ceremony. Burial will be in the Wethersfield Cemetery.

Mrs. Lilly Girkin

Mrs. Lilly E. Girkin, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Alexander hampton Sr. was born October 21, 1904 and came to Kewanee at an early age where she attended Wethersfield Schools and later Kewanee Business College.

Married to Clyde Girkin, June 15, 1927, she is survived by her gusband, 4 sisters:Carrie, Bertha, Alice and Loretta of Kewanee; 4 brothers Thomas, Herbert, Alexander Jr. and Lewis all home. Mrs Girkin was a member of t. Pauls Luthern Church.

Funeral services were held at the Palmer Chapel this afternoon at 1:30pm and at St. Pauls Luthern Church at 2pm. The Reverend M.F. Oberndorfer will be n charge.

Bertha M. Vick

Bertha M. Vick, 80, who lived withher daughter at 424 Brooke Road, Rockford, formerly of Freeport, Died Monday, September 8, 1996 at the Swedish American Hospital in Rockford. For a number of years she was house mother for the nursing dormitory of Freeport Memorial Hospital.

Born May 28, 1906 in Keanee, she was the daughter of Alexander(Ed)and Nellie(curl)Hampton. She married Ferdinand Vick on October 4, 1928 in Rockford. He died August 17, 1967.

Surviving are 1 son Charles F. of Freeport, 2 daughters, Shirley McCollum of Rockford, Betty Dimodica of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla, 3 brothers Herbert and Lewis of Kewanee and Alexander Jr., of California; 2 sisters Loretta Wiley of Cambridge and Edna Pounders of Tuscumbia, Alabama; 2 grandchildren and 1 gr. grandcild.

In addition to her husband she ws preceded in death by 4 sisters and 4 brothers. Services will be held at 10:30 am Thursday at Walker Mortuary. Reverend Arthur R. Stees, Pastor of the 1st Luthern Church will officiate. Burial win be in Silver Springs Cemetery. Friends may cll from 4-7pm Wednesday at the mortuary. A memorial has been establish

Lewis B. Hampton

KEWANEE — Lewis B. Hampton, 83, of Kewanee, died at 6:20 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2007, at Kewanee Hospital.

Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Friday, Feb. 16, at Rux Funeral Home, Kewanee. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Burial will be in Wethersfield Cemetery, where military rites will be accorded by the Kewanee Veterans Council. Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.

He was born on Oct. 23, 1923, in Kewanee, the son of Alex and Nellie (Curl) Hampton.

Surviving are two sisters, Edna Pounders of Kewanee and Loretta Wiley of Geneseo; special friends and caregivers Michele and Steve Wilson and Almeda Geirnaeirt; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers and five sisters.

He was a World War II Army veteran, serving in the European Theater. He was a general assistant at Milnes Auto in Kewanee for 28 years.

Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. donald(Barbara)Murphy Sr. of Kewanee, Mrs. jack(Sheila)Kenward of kansas City, Mo., Mrs. larry )Lela_Swartz of Galesburg, Mrs. Donald(Linda)Nagle of Abingdon; seven sons, Wren R Hampton of Kewanee, Donald C., Phil O., Robert E., Kenneth F., allof Kewanee. Harold L. of Des Moines, Iowa, and Frederick L. of Bloomington; 34 grandchildrn and 16 great grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters, Mrs mary Rosenow and Mrs. Sara Guritz, both of Kewanee.

Funeral services will be hel in the Creamer Funeral Home Saturday At 1:30 pm. The Rev. Steven E. Clapp will officiate and interment will be in pleasant View Cemetery.

Friends may call Friday 7 to 9 pm at he furneal home.

Elaine Hampton is Laid to Rest in Wethersfield

Funeral services for little Elaine Hampton were held Monday afternoon at St. Paul's Luthern Church. The Rev. F.E. Mayer being in charge. Music was furnished by Miss Augusta Bloedorn and Mrs. Carl Melchin. The selections were, a Sunday school hymn, "Seeing I am Jesus' Lamb," and "Safe in the Arms of Jesus." There was a large attendance and many beautiful floral tributes and the sorrowing family wishes to thank all those who helped them in their time of sorrow.

Bearers were, Misses Myrtle Rosenow, Lillian Hampton, Helen Rosenow and Darlene Stead. Buial was in Wethersfield cemetery.

Besides the parents, Elaine is survived by two brothers, Glenn, who is 9 years old, and Emmett, who is 2 and a sister, Mercedes, 6 years old. There are also the grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John E. Hampton, in addition to uncles, aunts, cousins and many friends.

Saturday, February 16, 1924

Floyd Edward Hampton

Floyd Edward Hampton, little son of Carrie Hampton, passed away at 1:50 o'clock Friday afternoon at the home of his uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Rollins, 634 Stokes Street. The end came after an illness of two weeks with pneumonia.

The child ws born in Kewanee, January 14, 1922 and at the time of his death he was 2 years, 1 month and 1 day old. He was a bright and attractive little fellow, and his death come as a shock to his relatives. In addition to the mother he is survived by his great grandparents, grandparents, uncles, aunts and other relatives.

The funeral service will be held Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Earl Rollins residence. The Rev. E.A. Lower, pastor of the First Baptist Church will be in charge and burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery.
