Briggs Repair Instructions
These pages are for the inexperienced shade tree mechanic.

Often you find a lawn mower or other piece of power equipment that is discarded or in need of repair. It is easy to completely replace the piece of equipment with a new one, but economics may make it out of the question. I dedicated these pages to the would be mechanic that is in need of information on how to get the job done. Restoring an engine to an operational state can be challenging and rewarding.

Caution

Exhaust gases contain carbon monoxide which is odorless and a deadly poison. Proper care must be taken to provide efficient ventilation. Gasoline is highly flammable. Care must be taken when fueling up and working on an engine.
In general it is a good idea to remove the sparkplug wire and place the clip in the holder on the cover. If one is not provided place it far away from the spark plug tip. Any movement of the engine crankshaft can cause the engine to fire and cause injury.
