Inspirational Thoughts

This page is dedicated to our parents: Mary's mother, Arlene Hafner, who died in 1996, and to Charles Peterson, my father, who died in 1993.

But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you,
do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which
despitefully use you, and persecute you.
Matthew 5:44

The Second Coming of Jesus will be sudden and unexpected. Because we do not know when our Lord will return, we should expect it at any time and be preparing for it. "The day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat (2 Peter 3:10). The eternal Son of God will descend for all to see from the heavens. How dreadful it will be for those who have rejected Jesus. If you accept Jesus as your savior, you do not have to fear death or the return of Jesus because you will inherit all the splendor and glory God has promised to those who love Him. The Day of Christ will be refreshening to you and you will long for it and peace will overcome you. Choose God before it is too late. All you have to do is to ask Jesus to come into your heart and to forgive you for your sins. Turn away from a life of sin and turn to Jesus! Jesus died for all of us and eternal life is only possible through the grace of God and through the blood shed for you by the Lamb of God, Jesus Christ.

He Giveth More Grace by J.E. Myhill

He giveth more grace when the burdens grow greater.
He sendeth more strength when the labors increase.
To added affliction He addeth His mercy,
To multiplied trials, His multiplied peace.

When we have exhausted our store of endurance,
When our strength has failed ere the day is half done,
When we reach the end of our hoarded resources, Our Father's full giving has only begun

His love has no limits, His grace has no measure,
His power no boundary known unto men.
For out of His infinite riches in Jesus,
He giveth and giveth, and giveth again.

These words are dedicated to my wife, Mary. On our wedding day in 1969, she presented me with a book entitled From this Day Forward. One of the inspirational messages it contains can also be found in the greatest book of all, The Bible.
Love

If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels,
But have not love,
I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal.
And if I have prophetic powers,
And understand all mysteries and all knowledge;
And if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains,
But have not love,
I am nothing.
If I give away all I have
And if I deliver my body to be burned,
But have not love,
I gain nothing.

Love is patient and kind;
Love is not jealous or boastful;
It is not arrogant or rude.
Love does not insist on its own way;
It is not irritable or resentful;
It does not rejoice at wrong, but rejoices in the right.
Love bears all things,
Believes all things,
Hopes all things,
Endures all things.

Love never ends;
As for prophecy, it will pass away;
As for tongues, they will cease;
As for knowledge, it will pass away.
For our knowledge is imperfect
And our prophecy is imperfect;
But when the perfect comes, the imperfect will pass away.

When I was a child, I spoke like a child,
I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child;
When I became a man, I gave up childish ways.
For now we see in a mirror dimly;
But then face to face.
Now I know in part;
Then I shall understand fully,
Even as I have been fully understood.
So faith, hope, love abide these three;
But the greatest of these is love

1 Corinthians 13

One day at a time...this is enough.
Do not look back and grieve over the past, for it is gone.
And do not be troubled about the future, for it is yet to come.
Live in the present and make it so beautiful
That it will be worth remembering.

I Said a Prayer for You

A prayer for my two precious kids: Jennifer and Andrew

"I said a prayer for you today and know God must have heard;
I felt the answer in my heart Although He spoke not a word.
I didn't ask for wealth or fame, (I knew you wouldn't mind),
I asked for priceless treasures rare, Of a more lasting kind.
I prayed that He'd be near to you At the start of each new day,
To grant you health and blessing fair, And friends to show your way.
I asked for happiness for you In all things great and small,
But that you'd know His loving care I prayed for most of all."

The Difference

I got up early one morning and rushed right into the day.
I had so much to accomplish that I didn't have time to pray.

Problems just tumbled about me and heavier came each task.
`Why doesn't God help me?' I wondered. He answered, `You didn't ask.'

I wanted to see joy and beauty, but the day toiled on, gray and bleak;
I wondered why God didn't show me. He said, `But you didn't seek.'

I tried to come into God's presence; I used all my keys at the lock.
God gently and lovingly chided, `My child, you didn't knock.'

I woke up early this morning, and paused before entering the day.
I had so much to accomplish that I had to take time to pray.
