Daily Activities
Depending on what kind of program you are in your daily activities will differ. Most programs include some of the following activities planned around your basic daily activities of meals, toileting, and rest times.
Circle
Time: This is where many of the group activities take
place. In many programs every one gets together
and sits on the floor in front of the calendar. Discussions may take place
about the events of the day, calendars are often used, sometimes sharing is
done during this time, and other activities that the teacher feels are appropriate
Free Play:
Play is probably one of the most important parts of a child's
day. Children learn so much from their play! It is also a great
time for teachers to learn about their students through interactions with the
children and daily observations.
Story Time:
This can take place anywhere! Some
programs have a special story time room or rug. What ever the
environment it is a favorite. Check out The Bookshelf for some great books you can buy from Barnes & Noble!
Songs/Poems/
Finger-Plays: These can be used
through-out
your day. Use them in group time, during individual activities, music
& movement times, and transitions! Here is a great song and finger-play
book you can purchase from for more finger-play fun!
Planned Teacher
Directed Activities/Small Group:
Activities planned that a teacher uses to teach specific skills, allow
children to practice specific skills, or teach about a particular topic of
interest.
Music & Movement:
Music & Movement:
Daily opportunities for participating in music activities is a great way to introduce children to a love of music and also for many learning
opportunities to take place.
Snacks:
Most programs full or half days will include snacks. For more ideas about fun snacks check out Food Fun.
Outdoors:
Time should be allowed every day for outdoor play to develop large motor
and other skills. Weather permitting.
