The International Ice Racing Association (IIRA) is the largest sanctioning body for automobile racing on ice in North America. The race series is run on weekends in January and February on a number of frozen lakes, and organized by several sanctioned clubs. The typical race weekend includes: practice and qualifying sessions, half hour rubber-to-ice, studded sprint and solo (rookie) sprint races on Saturdays, with a half hour studded sprint race and 2+ hour endurance race on Sundays.
There are six classes of cars racing in our series, four modified and two stock. This provides an opportunity for a wide variety of race cars to compete in our events. In the 25+ years since the IIRA was created, many professional race drivers have discovered the fun and value of ice racing in our series. However, it is a race series that anyone interested can get involved in.
This is the IIRA's first publication on the World Wide Web (first published 1/11/99). This site was developed to provide more detailed information on ice racing, photographs of the cars and race conditions, and ice racing news including race results. If you have any questions or comments regarding the IIRA or sports car racing on ice, please e-mail us at the address listed below.

(1/10/08) - Factory Studded Tire Series
In an attempt find an affordable alternative spec tire for future ice racing seasons, we have created a special sprint race series. This series will test the viability of a variety of factory studded tires. Although we do expect a decrease in performance using these tires, the hope is that we will still find the racing fun and at a lower cost. We invite you to check out the Supplementary Rules page, pick up a set of your favorite brand of studded tires and join us each race weekend in trying a new twist on IIRA ice racing. Give it a shot and let us know what you think. Your input is appreciated.

(11/13/07) - The latest word on tires for 2008 is that this will be the last year for Menards to build our spec tires. Only a limitted number of tires will be made for this winter based on early orders. So, order your new tires now to ensure you have them for the upcoming season. Also, expect prices to be about $20 more per tire over last year. For prices and to order, call Pete Burgess at 715-876-2681.
(4/3/07) - Surveys were mailed out last week to about 230 present and former IIRA iceracers. If you received a survey, please give us your responses as instructed. We would appreciate hearing from you as soon as possible. Click here for a copy of the survey.
(3/7/07) - In our season's finale last weekend in Garrison, Minnesota, Dave McGovern and Nick Goertz driving the #25, GTX class Subaru Impreza took first overall in Sunday's enduro, but it was Dick Nordby driving with Bill Nelson in the #01 GTO VW Rabbit who won the 2007 points race by finishing second overall.
(2/27/07) - It was a fun weekend of playing in the snow at the 1st Annual IIRA Dave Kane Memorial Race on Long Lake in Isanti, Minnesota last weekend. For the third weekend in a row, the #01, GTO class, VW Rabbit proved to be unbeatable driven this time by Mike Ehleringer along with Dick Nordby in taking overall honors for Sunday's endurance race. Check out Jim Anderson's website for photos and results. Thank you to Cory Coulson for putting on a good event, even with the big snow storm.
(2/19/07) - It was another great weekend of racing on Balsam Lake last weekend. The team of Dick Nordby and Bill Nelson is on a roll winning Sunday's endurance race overall once again in the #01 GTO class VW Rabbit.
