This old Finnish quilt was made by Grandma
Katainen on her treadle Singer in the '40s.
After keeping everybody warm for
50-odd years, it ended up pretty threadbare.
Finally enduring the Red River flood in
Grand Forks in 1998, Edie salvaged it
from the required discards, washed it a
few times, took it completely apart,
repaired each square even reproducing grandma's "mistakes", added new backing
& stuffing, and it's ready for bed again.

Edie made this for her youngest, David, who is an
avid hunter and taxidermist.

This is a new queen-size labor-of-love made from
old neckties.
Edie &Mom have over 100 hours in it,
not counting
stripping-out the ties.
The little tags scattered in the field are the tie labels.
It will be displayed on
our office wall.
