"How much better is it to get wisdom than gold! and to get understanding rather to be chosen than silver!" Proverbs 16:16

Wisdom brings wealth, riches of intelligence. It must be sought for and discovered. It must be hungered for and desired. When it is truly desired it is obtained.

"My son, if thou wilt receive my words, and hide my commandments with thee; so that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom, and apply thine heart to understanding; Yea, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for understanding; if thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures; THEN shalt thou understand the fear of the Lord, and find the knowledge of God. " Proverbs 2:1-5

Wisdom is better than wealth. In Matthew 6:19-21 Jesus said, "Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: for where your treasure is, there will your heart be also."
Proverbs 4:5-7 says, "Get wisdom, get understanding: forget it not; neither decline from the words of my mouth. Forsake her not, and she shall preserve thee: love her, and she shall keep thee. Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding." Wisdom preserves, wisdom is the principal thing, wisdom lasts. We need wisdom more than riches, do we not? Many times in the proverbs wisdom is exalted above gold and earthen treasures. Proverbs 8:11 declares, "For wisdom is better than rubies; and all the things that may be desired are not to be compared to it." verses 35 and 36 state, "For whoso findeth me (wisdom) findeth life, and shall obtain favour of the Lord. But he that sinneth against me wrongeth his own soul: all they that hate me love death."

Wisdom makes you intelligent. With intelligence comes responsibility. If you know what is right, you are obligated to do what is right. Same with wisdom. When you know what the wise and prudent thing is to do, you must do it. To become intelligent and wise you must study the Scriptures and have a heart that seeks truth and that seeks God.

Wisdom has to be sought for and desired. You acquire things that you desire and seek. To get something you want, you have to want it first before you get it. Do you want wisdom? Proverbs 24: 3-5 says, "Through wisdom is an house builded; and by understanding it is established: and by knowledge shall the chambers be filled with all precious and pleasant riches. A wise man is strong; yea, a man of knowledge increaseth strength." When you seek wisdom a house is built, established, and made strong. A man of wisdom is strong. Proverbs 28: 5 and 6 says, "Evil men understand not judgement: but they that seek the Lord understand all things. Better is the poor that walketh in his uprightness, than he that is perverse in his ways, though he be rich." James 1:5 says, "If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him" Just ask!

When wisdom is sought for it is discovered. It is discovered and found in the Scriptures. The entire book of Proverbs is saturated with wise sayings and verses that instruct us how to be wise and the benefits of being wise. I'd encourage everyone to read Proverbs over and over and over again. Discover wisdom.

When wisdom is discovered it is then obtained. "He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed." (Proverbs 13:20) Another way wisdom can be obtained is by fellowshipping with wise men and learning from wise men. When we are friends with the world and friends with fools how can we ourselves learn to be wise? "And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever." Daniel 12:3

Once wisdom has been obtained it needs to be maintained. We can't ask for wisdom, be wise for a while, then slouch off. That would be foolish. Wisdom makes us stronger and the wiser we become the stronger we become. Strength needs to be maintained. We can't put Proverbs back on the book shelf, no, we must keep the book open always as we strive to be wise and to do what is right. Ecclesiastes 7:12 says, "For wisdom is a defense, and money is a defense: but the excellency of knowledge is, that wisdom giveth life to them that have it." verse 19 says, "Wisdom strengtheneth the wise more than ten mighty men which are in the city."

"For the Lord giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding. He layeth up sound wisdom for the righteous: he is a buckler to them that walk uprightly. He keepth the paths of judgement, and preserveth the way of his saints. Then shalt thou understand righteousness, and judgement, and equity; yea, every good path. When wisdom entereth into thine heart, and knowledge is pleasant unto thy soul; discretion shall preserve thee, understanding shall keep thee." Proverbs 2:6-11
