My Movie Party On The Web

In a town like Sandpoint, there are two main things for young people to do: party, or watch movies. I do go to parties, as my party page implies, but it is much more common to find me camped out in front of the TV with my friends, popcorn, and lots of Mountain Dew watching movies until all hours of the night.

My all time favorite movie is "8 Seconds" but I can't find a page for it. Some other really great movies for which I cannot find good enough pages are: "Grumpy Old Men," "Grumpier Old Me," "Wayne's World," "Mystery Science Theater 3000," "Swing Kids," "Pure Country," "Top Gun," and "Total Recall."

Now that we've gotten that out of the way, there are some really great movies that do have pages. You should see as many of them as you can, if you haven't already. And here they are:

"My Fellow Americans" - starring Jack Lemmon and James Garner. It's got some great political jokes, but you'll find it funny even if you're not into politcis. "Don't you fall into the trap/Democrats are full of crap." - Russel Kramer Doll.

"Reality Bites" - starring Winona Ryder and Ethan Hawke. This is one of my favorite movies ever, which reminds me, I should watch it again soon. "Did he dazzle you with his extensive knowledge of mineral water or was it his in-depth analysis of Marky Mark that finally reeled you in. I just would have liked to have been there to watch how you rationalized sleeping with a yuppie-head cheeseball on the first date. " -Troy "He's not a yuppie." -Lelaina. "He's the reason why Cliff Notes were invented." -Troy

“Spaceballs” – starring Rick Moranis and John Candy. This is the funniest parody I’ve ever seen, and I didn’t even like “Star Wars.” “Evil will always triumph, because good is dumb.” –I can’t remember for sure who said this, but I think it was Lord Helmet.

“That Thing You Do” -starring Liv Tyler and Tom Hanks. This movie is awesome, and it has awesome music. It was the first movie I ever watched and decided to buy the soundtrack before the movie was even over. I can’t think of a good quote though, which is really stupid because it hasn’t even been that long since I’ve seen it. I’ll put one up as soon as I think of one.

“The Wedding Singer” -starring Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore. I just finally saw this one last weekend. Adam Sandler just rocks, so of course it’s good, although “Billy Madison” is my favorite of his, this one is hilarious as well. It’s very different from his other movies, so even if you didn’t like them, you should see this one. “Hello, I’m Mrs. Julia Goolia.” -Julia, obviously.

“Kiss the Girls” -starring Morgan Freeman and Ashley Judd. This is a great movie, if you like scary suspense type stuff. There is excellent detective work in this movie, quite impressive really. I’m not going to put a quote on this one because I was going for funny quotes, and it’s just not a funny movie. Not to say that there are no light-hearted parts, I just can’t think of any right now.

“The Wizard of Oz” -starring Judy Garland. When I was little I watched this movie almost every day. I haven’t seen it in quite a few years, but I still consider it one of the best movies ever made, and every little kid should see it at least once. “I’ll get you my pretty, and your little dog, too” –Wicked Witch of the West.

“The Truman Show” -starring Jim Carrey. This is a very un-Jim Carrey movie, but I think it’s one of his best. It really says something about the role TV plays in our lives, too. “Good morning to you, and in case I don’t see you, good afternoon, good evening and good night.” –Truman.

“Air Force One” -starring Harrison Ford. This is an excellent movie. Of course, most of these movies are excellent, that’s why they’re here. But to be honest, I can’t think of anything to say about this one except that it’s really good and you should see it. “Get off my f***ing plane.” –the President of the US, I can’t remember what his name was in the movie.

“The Mask of Zorro” -starring Antonio Banderas and Anthony Hopkins. I have to admit, I wasn’t really excited about seeing this movie, I never liked the TV show, but that’s what my friends wanted to see, so I went to it with them. It was really good. It’s not my favorite movie ever, and I might never watch it again, but it was worth seeing at least once. I can’t find a good quote, but I’ll work on that, I promise.

“Austin Powers” -starring Mike Myers and Elizabeth Hurley. This is a stupid movie if what you want is a good plot and wonderful acting, but it’s very funny. My friends at home all like this one even better than “Billy Madison,” but I like Billy better. “It’s friggin’ freezing in here Mr. Pigglesworth.” –Dr. Evil.

“Mallrats” -starring Jeremy London and Jason Lee. This is the second in a series of three movies which are all connected. I think this is the funniest one. It’s another movie with no real plot but with lots of laughs. (I think I’ll have links to the other two as well, but I’m not positive at this point.) “Snoochie Boochie Noochies!” –Jay.

“Ever After” -starring Drew Barrymore and Angelica Houston. This is an absolutely beautiful movie. It has all the elements of a wonderfully sappy movie without the actual sap. It’s probably the best movie Drew Barrymore has ever made. “All I ask is that you show her the same courtesy she has shown me.” –Danielle at the judging of her step-mother.

“First Knight” -starring Julia Ormond, Richard Gere and Sean Connery. I don’t know how accurate the story is, or even how much I like the idea of Arthur’s life being lived the way it was in the movie, but it was an excellent movie just the same. “If there is any honor in you, promise me you’ll never do that again.” –Guinevere. “I don’t know about honor, but I promise I won’t kiss you again until you ask me to.” –Lancelot. “And that I never will.” –Guinevere.

“Good Will Hunting” -starring Matt Damon and Robin Williams. I wanted to see this movie as soon as it came out, but I ended up waiting until the end of the summer. Since then I’ve seen it three times, that’s how good it is. “You’re just a boy. You don’t have the faintest idea what you’re talking about.” –Sean

“Hope Floats” -starring Sandra Bullock and Harry Connick Jr. Another extremely beautiful movie, and the soundtrack just happens to include my favorite song. It really is a sweet movie, and it has country music and a cowboy in it, what more could I ask for? “I don’t wanna be known as Bernice Matisse.” –Bernice.

“Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil” -starring Kevin Spacey and John Cusack. At a movie party over the summer I my friends rented a movie I’d never heard of based on a book I’d never heard of, but I loved it. Except I still wonder what was in the vile, and my friends all laughed at me when I told them that. “This place is fantastic; it's like "Gone With The Wind" on mescaline. They walk imaginary pets here, Garland---on a fucking leash. And they're all heavily armed and drunk. New York is boring!” –John Kelso.

“Snake Eyes” -starring Nicholas Cage. This movie isn’t what I expected, which was an edge of your seat suspense which kept you wondering who did it the whole time. I think they let the viewers know who was behind the crime too early and took all the detective work out of it, but it was a good movie anyway. Unfortunately, the computer I’m on won’t let me on to the site so I can find a good quote. I’m not overly fond of the computer system at this school, but I won’t go into that now.

“Dante’s Peak” -starring Bronson Pinchot and Linda Hamilton. This isn’t a great movie. It’s an OK movie. I only put it on this list because it was filmed in Wallace, Idaho, which is about two hours from my home town. For that reason I liked it, but as for the plot and acting and all that good stuff, it was just OK. Oh, but in case you’re wondering, the mountain isn’t really there.

“Beautiful Girls” -starring Matt Damon, Timothy Hutton, Mira Sorvino and Rosie O’Donnell. This was filmed in Stillwater, Minn, where my friend Angie is from. But that’s not why it’s here. It’s here because it’s a really cool pretty funny movie. I liked it way before I even met Angie or knew it was filmed in Minn. “Supermodels are beautiful girls, Will. A beautiful girl can make you dizzy, like you've been drinking Jack and Coke all morning. Se can make you feel high with the single greatest commodity known to man--promise. Promise of a better day. Promise of a greater hope. Promise of a new tomorrow. This particular aura can be found in the gaze of a beautiful girl. In her smile, in her soul, how she makes every rotten little thing about life seem like it's going to be okay. The supermodels are bottled promise. A beautiful girl is all powerful, and that's as good as love.” –Paul.

“The Blues Brothers” -starring John Belushi and Dan Akroyd. This movie is the Bible of the SHS jazz band, or at least is was while I was there. Every spring we did a Blues Brothers concert, and we played “Green Onions” every chance we got. And besides that, it’s a really funny movie. “It’s 106 miles to Chicago. We’ve got a full tank of gas and a half a pack of cigarettes. It’s dark and we’re wearing sunglasses." -Elwood. "Hit it.” –Jake.

“Chasing Amy” -starring Ben Afleck and Joey Lauren Adams. This is the third movie in the group that includes “Mallrats.” This one isn’t as funny as “Mallrats,” but it’s good, and definitely worth seeing. “How could you have grown up on the shore and never played skee-ball? What did you do with your childhood?” –Holden. “Stayed out late, smoked pot, screwed around.” –Alyssa.

"City of Angels" -starring Meg Ryan and Nicholas Cage. A beautiful, but sad movie. Very well done, very believable, a definite must see. "Why do you wear the same clothes all the time? Why won't you give my your phone number? Are you married? Are you homeless? Are you a drummer?" -Maggie.

"Clerks" -starring a whole bunch of cool people whose names aren't big. "Clerks" is made by the same people as "Mallrats" and "Chasing Amy." It's the first one. People had been telling me to watch if for years and years, so I finally did. It's funny, but it's not as good as the other two. Worth seeing though. "There's nothing more exhilerating than pointing out the shortcomings of others." -Randal.

"Dirty Dancing" -starring Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey. Excellent dancing, great music, what more do you need? It has some good put downs and wise ass remarks, too, if you're into that sort of thing. "Nobody puts Baby in a corner." -Johnny.

"Empire Records" -starring Liv Tyler and Renee Zellweger. I wanna work at Empire Records. It makes work look less like work and more like fun. This movie is hilarious, and it has really good music too. "Empire Records, open 'til midnight. This is Mark . . . Midnight!" -Mark.

"Ferris Bueller's Day Off" -starring Matthew Broderick. I don't know which came first, this movie or the TV show "Parker Lewis Can't Lose," but they are both brilliant and hilarious. "How could I possible be expected to handle school on a day like this?" -Ferris.

"The Princess Bride" -starring Cary Elwes and Robin Wright. Arguably the best movie ever made. It is for sure a beautiful movie and a wonderful love story. "As you wish." -Wesley.

"Labyrinth" -starring David Bowie. Probably the only magic story I really like, although I was kind of scared of it when I was little. It's really a cool movie though, and sometimes I wish I could wish things and people away. "I wish the goblins would come and take me away right now." -Sarah.

"The Mighty Ducks" -starring Emilio Estevez and Joshua Jackson. All three Mighty Duck movies were filmed in Minnesota, that's why I put them on the page. The movies are OK, but spotting places in them that I can now say I've seen is the best part of watching them.

"The Usual Suspects" -starring Kevin Spacey and Stephen Baldwin. An amazing movie with mystery and suspence. Even the second and third times I saw it I was surprised by the way it turned out. "The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist." -Verbal Kint.

"Can't Hardly Wait" -starring Jennifer Love Hewitt and Ethan Embry. This movie is hilarious. I laughed through the whole thing. Being recently out of high school, I could easily relate to it, but no matter how long ago gradution was, it's easy to laugh at this. "I just want to apologize for that time you were going to make a speech and I tripped you in front of the whole class. When was that?" -Mike "It was this morning at graduation." -William.

"You've Got Mail" -starring Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks. Much better and more realistic than "Sleepless in Seattle." More romantic, funnier, just overall better, but with a lot of the same ideas. "Listen to this -- the entire work force of the State of Virginia had to have solitare removed from their computers because they hadn't done any work in six weeks." -Frank.

"The Devil's Advocate" -starring Keanu Reeves and Al Pacino. Scary, fascinating, suspenceful, brilliant, surprising, all that good stuff. "Satan?" -Kevin. "Call me Dad" -John/Satan.

"Shakespeare In Love" -starring Joseph Fiennes and Gwenyth Paltrow. A surprisingly accurate, wonderfully beautiful love story with some outrageously funny parts. "It'll all turn out OK in the end." -Philip. "How?" -Will. "I don't know. It's a mystery." -Philip.

There are about a million movies out there, so of course I can't put all the good ones on my page. The movies are above are the best ones I've seen that I can find pages for. As I see more and find more pages, I'll add more. For now, I think this is enough to keep everyone busy.
