"SHE BACKS ASSAILANTS, THEIR PREY"
LOS ANGELES-When bullets fly in drive-by shooting, Gigi Greene's heart grows heavy for those who pull the triggers as well as those struck down by gunfire. "The bottom line to understanding gang members is that they are victims too. said Greene, founder/president of T.E.A.R.S. International, Inc. (To Educate All Responsible Societies). Although Greene's foundation focuses basically on helping the victims and their families to on with their lives, she has not forgotten the original mission of her group. T.E.A.R.S. started in 1990 a non-profit foundation to curb gang violence through community activities and gang reconciliation. Instead of giving up on the gang members who cause much of pervasive violence that plagues the Southside and in other areas of the world . Greene' said. "I have also found out that victims have to be comfortable and you have to work on them spiritually and you have to show them that you care, "she said. In most drive-by shootings somebody gets hit, but often the intended victim goes unharmed and an innocent bystander takes the bullet. Greene's foundation also provides referral services to legal and psychological assistance for childern and their families. Frequently Greene visit the burial plots of shooting victims whose relatives she has assisted. On a recent warm summer morning she took time out to visit the grave of Southside resident in Los Angeles, Ca., Reginald Moore, 23 who was gunned down in a drive-by shooting earlier this year. Greene said, funds are needed and donations to continue their on going services. Greene and staff expect to begin holding community meeting at several parks in South Los Angeles. She said the meetings will combine the seriousness of a gang-community summit with carnival atmosphere of a country fair and looking for it to become a master working plan throughout the world, however we need all of concerns to help no matter who you are, "ONLY TOGETHER CAN WE MAKE THAT CHANGE". The childern are our future, something we can not change, so lets make them safe.
