Throw in some Retro-Glam, reminscent of T Rex & Scary Monsters era Bowie, a bit of Metal, a touch of Punk, the Dark attitude of Goth, a large helping of Gender-Bending Leather & Studs, cram it into a 4-piece live-band delivery, and there you have All The Pretty Horses' Queens & Angels.....just add glitter & stir.
Transgender performance artist, filmmaker, painter, poet, and love-child of Marlene Dietrich and Jim Morrison, S. Grandell fronts the band, delivering cryptic dreams with a vocal drama & sparse guitar sound which brings to mind the work of Joy Divison & The Cure.
Goth Chique Tiffany Tieche backs up vocally with uniquely quiet high-low range harmonies, each specifically & carefully placed to bring an almost unearthly texture to the songs.
Leather Man Edward Ford thumps out ready-steady bass richness giving each song a bed of fertile ground to grow in.
Holding it all togeather & providing just enough flash & drive is drummer Matt Batchelor. Formally of 'Morticia,' Matt spends half his drumming time standing behind &, on occasion, on his drums.
All The Pretty Horses has gone through some changes since theyve started. the original band was a 3 piece: S. Grandell, Edward Ford, and original drummer Bill Bailey. as a 3 piece they recorded their first CD ATPH at Mirror Image recording studios, (which was Bills day job employment,) and self released it in Minneapolis. shortly after its release, Bill moved on & ATPH needed a new drummer. S. & Edward found a few local drummers willing to sit in for most of their scheduled performances, (though some had to be canceled,) until a permanent drummer was found. During this time, ATPH needed a new back-up singes as Bill was doing the Back-up vocals. Katy Thomasberg of Tail stepped in to add a 4th member & fill in as back-up vocalist. one of the drummers willing to sit in was Matt Batchelor of Static Gray. Matt was also willing to go on a tour of New York.
When everyone got back home, S. & Edward asked Matt if hed consider staying on as a permanent drummer. Matt agreed but also wanted to continue to peruse his own band Static Gray. ATPH agreed that everyone in the band should be able to pursue whatever independent projects they want, and Matt was added. Matt of course has a history of singing with his former band Morticia as well as Static Gray, so he picked up the back-up singer roll, and Katy devoted her time back to Tail. During another short tour, Matt couldnt make it & ATPH had to use another drummer for the date: Brett Forberg of 40R3 and The Wolverines. (Brett has since become Matts first choice as back-up drummer.) They again needed a back-up singer for the tour & Tiffany Tieche volunteered. She went over so well & added so much to the show, that she has stayed on as a permanent 4th Horse. This present line-up are All The Pretty Horses. With their new CD, Queens & Angels, they hope to make tracks.
